It is true, that we shouldn't do good just so that we get appreciated or rewarded for our good act.
Personally the ability to do good is enough reward for me. I believe that the very act of goodness is a reward on its own.
I'm always grateful to God for everytime I'm able to perform an act of kindness.
According to the holy book, man was created in the image and the likeness of God.
That's worth meditating over, especially when we consider the fact that God cannot be seen. He is called the invisible God.
How can humans who are visible beings be the likeness of an invisible being?
That can only be due to the fact God wants us to see our fellow human being, like his image or reflection of his might.
A lot of us do profess love to God. we do express our wish to give to him and render other services to him.
The truth is that God is self sufficient. He is not in need of anything. He began all things. In him everything consist.
However, when you look around you, you are going to see men who are in need. God expect you to channel all the love you have for him into serving those men.
How can you claim to love God and yet despise a man whom he made in his image?
To love God is to be kind to his creatures which includes humanity. That is why kindness shouldn't be traded for cheap praise and rewards. It should be done with a pure heart, knowing that we are simply ministering to God by being kind to his creatures.
I see kind virtue as God's endowment, the very reason I'm always appreciative of such an impeccable ability. I believe that it is the almighty himself working through me to bless his beloved creatures. So it is an unprecedented honour for me to be able to do good to a fellow man.
Then, there is something called encouragement and motivation. The truth remains that the best human being is still a human. And fragility and vulnerability is a word that best suits us. We do grow weary. Sometimes we get tired of doing good, due to one reason or the other.
At such time those people that were kind to you, needs your kind words to stay motivated and encouraged to do more.
Don't just say that they were doing it for God. Though they were doing it for God, they need your encouragement to keep on with their good works.
Let's make tonight a night of appreciation.
