¿Las has utilizado alguna vez? ¿Tienes algún consejo o recomendación?

ENGLISH VERSION

Hello, dear hiver.

Since I have been living in Hive my interest in photography has increased. I am prone to stay behind the camera and hide if I detect a lens pointed at me. I have never liked posing and find it difficult to recognise myself as being well portrayed in photographs. I don't have many in which I appear, not even in these times in which the happiness of not wasting film makes everyone carry their finger loose and take snapshots even of what they are going to eat.

It is worth mentioning that my only sister studied photography and my usual curiosity made her explain some basic concepts to me. Hence, if I mention any specialised concept, it is because I knew it years ago. But for the record, I am a simple amateur who, when she finds an image to be enraptured by, has no need for the thousands of words that say a single one is worth. Nothing more.

On the occasion of the now universal black friday I ordered a kit of lenses for my mobile phone to mess around with and venture to try something else. If my hobby grows I would consider buying a camera but I think it's better to start with the tools I already have.

This is the first unboxing in the history of palomap3, hehe. If I left out any important detail I hope you forgive me, ok? I promise to improve next time.

When the package arrived and I opened it I finally found my longed kit of lenses:

In the picture you can see everything in the box. This comes in handy to make a quick inventory of the merchandise and check if any items are missing. One detail I didn't like was that the box was not sealed. I didn't detect any visible marks of tampering, but it would have been better if it had been sealed with cellophane paper, as it is supposed to be a brand new product.

On opening the box, its only contents were a protective case. The outside is made of sturdy plastic and easy to keep clean. On the inside, however, it has compartments to store each item conveniently protected from possible knocks and bumps.

The weight of the case with all the parts is about 380 grams, which is not too much to carry in a bag or backpack to avoid unnecessary risk to the delicate lenses.

Each lens comes with a front and back cover. In addition, they have the detail of enclosing a small cleaning mop so that we can clean them every time we use them and a simple instruction manual in different languages with some indications and several useful tips for use.

I know I should have taken pictures of each piece of the kit, but I confess that in the excitement of the moment I forgot. What I wanted was to test them as soon as possible and that's what I did, so in substitution I show you my first tests and trials.

The first thing I tried was the 25x macro lens. The pineapple I use as a sample is about 6 centimetres high, so you can get an idea of the magnitudes. This is the lens I was looking for in the first place and the main reason to buy this kit. I want to discover that unknown world that we have before our eyes and we are unable to detect.

The three pictures above are taken with the mobile phone placed on the tripod, without moving it from its position. The only thing I did was to change lenses.

  • Top photo: without any lens, just with the mobile phone camera without zooming.
  • Middle photo: using the 0.62 wide-angle lens. You can see how we achieve an increased field of view.
  • Bottom photo: using the 235º fisheye lens. This is a curious effect that promotes creativity and a different appreciation of the world.

Now we come to the element that made me opt for this set of lenses and that is its 22x telephoto zoom lens. I'm not going to be spying on the neighbourhood, nor am I going to try my luck as a paparazzi, so don't worry about that. What I want this tool to help me capture are snapshots of animals without disturbing them.

Although I didn't get the focus quite right, I share the tests I did at two distances. The bird was about 15 metres away from me. And that building you see, 500 metres away. The most complicated thing is to manage to immobilize the mobile, because due to the weight of the telephoto lens, the tripod is not enough to keep the balance.

Manipulating the tripod and looking for possible positions to find that balance, I got one of its legs in my hand. What a disappointment, it didn't hold up for an hour. A closer look reveals its low quality, it's almost all plastic. It's a good thing that for me it was a complement and not one of the pieces I wanted when I bought this set.

The lenses do appear to be of reasonable quality, although I will try to handle them with extreme care to prevent further damage.

Now more relaxed, I released my "photographer's eyes" and started experimenting with the macro lens. Here are a couple of samples of what can be discovered thanks to it. I hope to share with you my progress in this new universe that has opened up to me.

Do you know this type of lens? Have you ever used them? Do you have any advice or recommendations?
