Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 95

This week's #SMap in the Feathered Friends Community allows all of us bird watchers to share some pictures of birds that in the past may not have fit into a specific category, so FREE THEME it is.
Many of the birds in our region migrate during the cold winter months, but not the cardinal. Instead, they continue to catch our eye with their vibrant colors as they forage around for wild berries, nuts, and seeds. They tend to seek shelter and security in evergreen trees and shrubs, which are plentiful on our property. This first picture is of a female cardinal perched on the branch of an evergreen tree.

It was not long before her partner decided to get in the picture.

With the snow already flying the seed in the feeder makes for easy picking.

On this particular day, I was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of what I think is a Baltimore Oriole. I have only spotted this bird on a few occasions and they have never stuck around long enough for me to capture a picture of them. As luck would have it a Red Headed Woodpecker decided to photobomb this shot.

The Red-winged Blackbird is another common bird found in Upstate New York. This species of bird makes its nest on the ground, usually in fields of tall grass.

When it's time for the farmers to harvest their fields of hay, I'm sure that these unsuspecting birds have lost many a brood.
