Feathered Friday - Sightings of the Week

Here are some sightings this week for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100

I've been seeing robins nesting everywhere. I'll have to keep an eye on this nest to see the babies growing up.

Speaking of nesting, I noticed this mallard milling around by the road on multiple days. I thought it was just being crazy but it turns out he is patrolling territory around his nesting mate.

His mate is nesting in an old rock fence entrance next to the road. There will be loads of ducklings soon at the lake.

The geese that were nesting on my neighbor's balcony have finally hatched. She had quite the adventure gathering them up off the balcony and bringing them down to the parents, then escorting them all the way to the lake lol. I had to do this same thing with ducks one year.

Here's a blurry shot of a cardinal. A split second before this I would have had the perfect shot of the male and female passing off a caterpillar so the female could feed it to her babies. I couldn't locate its nest.

Meanwhile at a different lake it was way more swampy and this goose was wading through all the muck. I usually come here to observe wood ducks but quite a few geese were there and they were scaring the wood ducks into the reeds.

Finally I noticed a couple wood ducks emerge from the reeds. These guys are way too shy.

The males look almost fake with their bold coloring. That orange eye looks plastic lol.

While I was in the blind by the lake watching the wood ducks a tree swallow landed right by me. It looks like its bright blue feathers are still coming in. They like the nest boxes that are setup around here.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
