This is a Call Duck resting on a large rock. He escaped from a farm and enjoyed a day at the lake swimming freely near my sister’s cottage in New Brunswick, Canada.
This Call Duck might have been used in hunting to attract other ducks but now he is a pet. His owner did eventually find him and take him back to the farm but he had a few days of freedom.
The Call Duck is a descendent of the Mallard with a fascinating history that includes a foundation in hunting, showing, and eventually human companionship.
