🦉 The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)

📚 Dendrocopos Greek: dendron tree, coptō to hit, beat
📚 major (lat.) big

In summer, the birds are busy with their fledglings. They teach them to live independently, feed themselves, search for food, hide from predators, and other behavior that will help them survive.

I was passing by an old cemetery and saw this young woodpecker. He sat at the bottom of a tree and waited for his mother.
His mother periodically flew to him and fed him. And then she flew away again to hunt, and he continued to sit quietly on a tree. I hope all was well with him, because it was a well-viewed place at the bottom of a tree, and this graveyard is full of wild dogs.
