🦉 The Eurasian sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), also known as the northern sparrowhawk

  • Accipiter accipere (lat.) to grab
  • nisus according to ancient Greek mythology Nisus (or Nisus), king of Megara, and his Skill's daughter, who betrayed her father because of her love passion for the enemy - the Cretan King Minos, were turned by the gods into birds of prey

One day at the beginning of spring I went into the forest to see if the snow had melted; after all, it was already dry in the city. And no, by this time there was still snow in the forest, and a lot of it. The birds were still in small flocks and did not separate into pairs. And I was surrounded by such a flock of birds. There were great tits, long-tailed tits, and willow tits. I photographed them, and they went about their business, searching for food. And then suddenly I heard the thin, high, needle-like squeak of great tits, and the long-tailed tits also screamed in alarm. It became clear to me that this was an air raid signal, a predator was somewhere nearby.

I began to hastily look at the tops of the trees and then a predator quickly flew past and sat down on a branch. He just sat and didn’t even hunt, and nearby the small birds on which he feeds were anxiously scurrying around.
