Birdwatching - 1899 šŸ¦

šŸ¦‰ The little stint (Calidris minuta) (or Erolia minuta)

  • Calidris kalidris or skalidris (Greek) unknown bird mentioned by Aristotle
  • minuta Latin: minutus small, minutellus very small
  • Erolia erolie (French) "curlew sandpiper".

This tiny sandpiper does not live within my city limits, but can be found during migration in mid-to-late fall. But for this you will need to overcome a huge path along a large river. I took these pictures about 30 km from the city at the end of autumn.

I saw a group of 4 of these birds near the shore. They very quickly, without stopping, wandered along the pebbles near the river and caught aquatic insects that by that time still remained.
