B-r-r-r! It dropped down to -40 below Celsius last night and I must say not a great time to be going out doors. The clearing skies is what bought the extreme cold weather but it also bought the sunshine which we hadn't seen for awhile. I don't know about you but everything seems okay to me if the sun is shining.
This is the scene that first greeted me as I stepped out into the frigid air heading over to the meditation studio. You can see we've been having lots of snow and this area is very sheltered so no wind has knocked it off the branches that still have their covering of ice from the freezing rain we had not that long ago (we have such extremes in weather going from above freezing to - 40 all within the same week)

Once the sun was up I stepped out on the deck for a bit (only a bit) and took in the cold but beautiful wonderland!

I feel for the birds in these weather conditions and I make sure there is lots of food in the bird feeder to keep them fueled to withstand the extreme cold.

Once I came indoors the birds flocked to the feeder. Not wanting to go back out in the cold I took the next set of photos through the window.

I really felt for this pine grosbeak who had frost on it's head and kept trying to get into the feeder where the bluejays were but they chased him away. He eventually got in for a go at the sunflower seeds

When I let my dog out the grosbeaks took to flight but my dog won't be out for long and they'll be back filling their bellies on the black oil sunflower seeds.

And here is my frosty looking dog, Bruno -

After some short stints outside then we come and hug the wood heater and drink of cup of hot latte - so grateful for a nice warm house!
