Today I want to talk about the sparrow in my country and what a misguided problem it brings.
Hoy les quiero hablar del gorrión en mi pais y qué erronea problemática trae.
When people talk about it it is always the same, "originally there were no sparrows in the country and they were brought in 1871 by Sarmiento (politician and military, ex president) to combat farming plagues" another story goes back to "a brewer who came from Germany who ended up releasing sparrows in the port because he did not agree with the high rates to keep his business" but the truth is that this is a bird that is found practically all over the world.
Cuando se habla de él siempre es lo mismo, "originalmente no había gorriones en el país y fueron traídos en el 1871 por Sarmiento (político y militar, ex presidente del país) para combatir las plagas en las cosechas” otra historia los remonta a “un cervecero que vino de Alemania qué terminó liberando gorriones en el puerto ya que no estaba de acuerdo con las altas tarifas para mantener su negocio” pero la verdad es que este es un ave que se encuentra en prácticamente todo el mundo.
It is because of this that it was given the bad reputation and was not always well liked due to the great proliferation of this species in the 19th century was dictated as a plague. Later these allegations were given against it because its presence actually helped the decrease of plagues such as locusts, caterpillars and butterflies.
Es debido a esto que se le dio la mala fama y no siempre fue muy querido debido a que la gran proliferación de esta especie en el siglo XIX fue dictada como una plaga. Más tarde estás alegaciones se dieron en contra debido a que su presencia ayudó realmente a la disminución de plagas como langostas, isocas y mariposas.
There are people in the national capital who blame sparrows for the disappearance of Rufous-collared Sparrow, Goldfinches and other species. Instead of blaming the obvious cause of the growth of the city and the need of the animals to escape to safer places for them.
Hay gente de la capital que culpa a los gorriones de la desaparición de chingolos, jilgueros y otras especies. En vez de culpar a la obvia causa del crecimiento de la ciudad y de la necesidad de los animales de escapar a lugar más seguros para ellos.
The truth is that, at least in the north of the country, we can appreciate many other species that live together with sparrows. My garden especially is a mixture of all of them.
Lo cierto es que, por lo menos en el norte del país podemos apreciar muchas especies más que viven en común junto a los gorriones. Mi jardín sobre todo es una mezcla de todos ellos.

I remember the first time, I didn't know what it was, out of the corner of my eye I noticed "moths" descending to the lawn and when I turned to look I only saw birds eating quietly. It took me a while to realize that those moths were the baby birds clumsily descending to the ground, the little feathers ruffled and the movement so fast.
Recuerdo la primera vez, no sabía qué era, por el rabillo del ojo notaba como “polillas” descendiendo al césped y cuando volteaba a ver solo veía aves comiendo tranquilas. Me tarde en darme cuenta que esas polillas eran los pichones bajando torpemente al suelo, las plumitas alborotadas y el movimiento tan rápido.
The sides of its peak have almost disappeared, indicating that the bird is able to eat on its own./Los costados de su pico ya casi desaparecieron indicando que puede comer por su propia cuenta.
Every day, Dad, Mom and their three little moths came to eat. They lived right on a wire pole with a hornbill nest, every day guarded by daddy sparrow perched on the wire, and mommy sparrow coming in and out leaving food.
Todos los días, papá, mamá y sus tres pequeñas polillas venían a comer. Vivían justo en un poste de cable con un nido de hornero, todos los días custodiado por papá gorrión posado en el cable, y mamá gorrión entrando y saliendo dejando comida.

I gave them the best space possible, without the presence of my dogs or cats and taking care especially in the morning when it is more common to see caracaras and black vultures coming down from the mountain.
Les di el mejor espacio posible, sin la presencia de mis perros o gatos y cuidando sobre todo en la mañana cuando es más común ver descender de la montaña los caranchos y jotes.
