Owls

Hello feathered friends.
Today I'll talk about owls.

There are a lot of owls in the place where I live. One of the reasons is that I live in a rural area with developed agriculture. An ideal place for owls, which mostly feed on rodents. They also feed on small mammals, birds, and insects. Owls hunt at dusk and during the night. Their predominantly gray color and almost inaudible flight help them with that.

They have a sharp beak, bent down, which serves to tear their prey. The claws are long, pointed, and strongly bent and serve as a weapon for killing and capturing prey.

I see them almost every day, or at least I hear them every night. During the winter, you can find several dozen owls on the branches of trees resting during the day.

They observe the prey from a height, sometimes from trees and sometimes from roofs or chimneys.

The most common species is the long-eared owl. It is recognizable by the raised feathers on its head that resemble ears. It gathers in winter flocks in populated areas or forests.

Although a predator itself, it is also prey for other predators such as northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), common buzzard (buteo buteo), and peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus).

When the winter starts I'll be able to show you more of them.

Thanks for stopping by.
