I think of creating a post with highlights from the summer. I got photos that I could not find time to share and the time is just slipped through my fingers. It is September already, the heat wave is behind and the temperatures are bearable. What am I saying? It is cold compared to the last week. Not that I complain. Anyway, the weekend was lovely, morning walk was really better with fresh air and cool wind. That gives more time to explore the area. Some birds are still there but soon will leave to the South. And we were very, very lucky, especially on Sunday with the variety of birds we saw.
So, the post I have initially thought to create will be postponed for a while and this post will be about the birds I had the pleasure to see and photograph on Sunday.
If you remember Are the shrikes cute? post, there I put photos of male shrike. Now all I could see is female shrikes and not a single male. They are spread everywhere I go. But these are the best photos I have.
Next bird is another elusive one, that I was eager to see and make decent photos. Moreover, this is the most colourful bird one can find in my country - the Bee-eater.
I was surprised that I got a shot from the previous day. I was in the field across the road, where sadly many new buildings are under construction and the bird habitat is shrinking more and more. There were many house martins and barn swallows, flying low and too fast to capture. I tried and when looked at the photos later on, I realised I got a bee-eater. Not that good, but this encouraged me to go again in the same place and even further. And they were there, cannot be mistaken as first I heard them and then they came closer.
When I thought that this is the best, I wouldn't expect to see another rare bird - the hoopoe. Firstly it was too far and my pcture was not very well focused. Shamed, because the hoopoe was with crest opened. And it was gone, could not follow it, but luck was on our side as hubby spotted it again. This time in the park and I had my second photo where the bird showed the crest.
It was pecking the ground for insects and I was waiting to come out from the shade.
This beauty comes in our park but not so often, we are so lucky to be again on the right place and at the right time. It moved and we saw how it took off and land on the tree a bit away where we left it.
Now if I say that's all for this day, it won't be true. There were many more birds.
But the photos weren't that good. So, I will stop here and will return to my highlights for the next post. Stay tuned if you wish to see what birds I have seen thus summer.
