Today's bike ride exploring the lake near our home which has the Island nest brought a beautiful suprise. This lake was home to one male and two females. We reported a month ago about the four cygnets which have been growing great.

Today we got to meet the newly hatched cygnets from the island nest which due to its safe location both from preditors and the elements. All 6 eggs have hatched.

These cygnets are only a few days old and they made the swim across the lake to meet us.

Not only that but their older sibling who is starting to develop black feathers also came across to meet us on our bike ride.

I'm amazed at their placid nature and how they are not in fear of humans and allow us to get so close. Furthermore they actually leave the water to come and show us their hatchlings.

I'm not sure if it is a bad thing as they are used to humans as they know we will feed them and some how impacts their ability to source food.

But I do enjoy these moments and my 3 yr old loves seeing the baby hatchlings.

It's amazing the difference between the hatchlings and the other cygnets that were born only a few months ago. Their maturity happens so swiftly.

Hopefully we don't miss their first flight. I'd love to be there to witness that.
