Pelican Birds have always been part of our family pets here on Byron Bay beach and on the other beaches close by us they come and go as they please we love them the kids love them and the Pelicans know that every local you will some locals either talking to them or walking along with them they know that us humans are not going to harm them, it is always a pleasure to see them on our beaches sitting around, bathing, swimming or just marching along the beach like a army battalion guarding our beaches.
They are quite a amazing and beautiful bird they are classed as one of the biggest water birds in the world having a long beak and a large throat pouch which is used for scooping up fish out of the ocean it's just amazing to see them in action there like a B52 bomber coming in for an attack.
Pelicans have a lifespan of up to 25 years and as a full matured adult can have a wingspan up to 3.5 meters that is one huge wingspan almost the size of a small jet it's a wonder they look so majestic when they are in flight.
And when these majestic birds have satisfied their bellies for the day and have had enough of interacting with humans and their cameras they go marching off again like a army battalion to their homes to feed their young ones.
