Doves Preening - Feathered Friends Contest #133

A pair of Peaceful Doves (also known as Zebra Doves) preening together in the shade of a Jamaican Cherry tree in our garden in Thailand. Native to the southern peninsular area they have been introduced to the rest of the country and, like the non-native tree these two are perched in, they have become a very welcome addition, particularly around towns and gardens.

These birds are both lovely and loving. Apparently inseparable, they spend their days rarely more than a few feet apart, and their nights huddled tightly together on a branch. They also often surprise me by suddenly moving when I am just a foot-step away without having realised they were there at all. They seem to have the most trusting natures but I not sure if this is trust in their own reaction speed or trust in me being harmless and slow. Perhaps both. Either way their peaceful natures are always a calming presence to have around.

Thanks for viewing.
