now pretty much everybody knows yoga comes from India and millions of people around the world practice yoga today. there are various styles, some traditional some new. you may be familiar with hatha, ashtanga, yin, kundalini, bikram, vinyasa and other styles but you probably haven't tried avian yoga

this particular pose known as the black-winged stilt pose is widely practiced among long-legged waders in India. in sanskrit the pose is referred to as Himantopus himantopus. it is an advanced pose not recommended for beginners. the benefits include increased flexibility, increased muscle strength, improved respiration and vitality and development of inner awareness. but of course for most practitioners the most noticeable benefit is an improved ability to catch small fish and frogs.

in the future i hope to be able to present other drier avian yoga poses that don't involve sticking your beak into muddy water and swallowing minnows and tadpoles. i would emphasize that i do not recommend attempting this pose without proper guidance and i have not done so myself but i have taken this photo with my lumix dmc fz-300.
