It has been a week since we all around the world received this terrible news about Ukraine. And I am still stunned. Why do people have to suffer again and again, just because some other people are so convinced of themselves that they take up arms.
Therefore, this Show Me A Picture Contest by @nelinovea comes just in time, because it reminded me of a story that happened two years ago and made me think a lot back then:
High up under the roof of the house in which I lived at the time, a pair of doves had nested. Soon the first two young doves hatched. They were very fit and lively when they came out of the nest. The parents had to feed them only 2 days, then they already flew around on the roofs.
After the doves hatched I informed my landlords, it would have been a good time to remove the nest and a small, simple grid would have been enough to protect the house.
But they didn't bother and so the dove pair started to breed a second time this year. Then in the middle of it came the message from the landlords: "Yes just throw the nest down!" ... I: "That's not possible now, they are breeding again" ... Answer: "But they are ONLY doves!
Of course, I then refused to let this happen. And in September came the new young doves out of the nest. One again was gone again after 2 days, but the second was somehow very small. She did not flutter around, but moved only in this one corner of the garden.
Since the nights became already sensitively cold I informed myself and got actually from bird experts the advice that she probably would not survive under these circumstances. So I caught her and drove 50 km to a foster home for wild birds, who took her to care for her.
Why am I telling you this now?
Because this pejorative, contemptuous "They are ONLY doves...." has never come out of my head.
Yes, they make a terrible mess and shit on everything. But who are we humans that we always rise above and treat other living beings like that?
The dove is an ancient symbol of peace! I personally love it when they coo and find it as soothing as the purr of a cat. And yet, most people just despise them.
Yes. It is all a mirror or?
Every day we wage our private little wars against everything and then we wonder why our world is so evil?

Die Friedens Tauben
Jetzt ist es schon eine Woche her, dass uns all diese schlimmen Nachrichten aus der Ukraine ereilt haben. Und ich bin immer noch fassungslos. Warum nur müssen immer wieder und wieder Menschen leiden, nur weil einige so sehr von sich selbst überzeugt sind, dass sie deswegen auch zur Waffe greifen.
Daher kommt dieser Show Me A Picture Contest von @nelinovea gerade recht, denn es hat mich an eine Geschichte erinnert, die sich vor zwei Jahren zugetragen hat und mir damals schon sehr zu denken gab.
Hoch oben unter dem Dach des Hauses in dem ich damals wohnte hatte sich ein Tauben Paar eingenistet. Bald darauf schlüpften die ersten beiden Jungtauben, eine ist hier zu sehen:
Sie waren sehr fit und munter, als sie aus dem Nest kamen. Die Eltern mussten sie nur noch 2 Tage füttern, dann flogen sie schon auf den Dächern herum.
Nachdem die Tauben ausgeschlüpft waren informierte ich meinen Vermieter, es wäre ein guter Zeitpunkt gewesen, das Nest zu entfernen und ein kleines, einfaches Gitter hätte ausgereicht, das Haus zu schützen.
Die haben sich aber nicht darum gekümmert und so begannen die Tauben, ein zweites mal in diesem Jahr zu brüten. Mitten drinnen kam dann die Nachricht vom Vermieter: "Ja wirf das Nest halt einfach runter!" ... ich: "Das geht jetzt nicht, sie brüten schon wieder" ... Antwort: "Sind doch NUR Tauben!"
Natürlich habe ich mich dann geweigert, dass dies so geschieht. Und im September kamen die neuen jungen Tauben. Eine war wieder nach 2 Tagen weg, aber die zweite war irgendwie sehr schwach. Sie flatterte nicht herum, sondern bewegte sich nur in dieser einen Ecke des Gartens.
Da die Nächte schon empfindlich kalt wurden habe ich mir schlau gemacht und bekam tatsächlich von Vogelexperten den Rat, dass sie es unter diesen Umständen wahrscheinlich nicht überleben würde. Also habe ich sie gefangen und 50 km zu einer Pflegestelle für Wildvögel gefahren, die sie aufgenommen haben.
Warum erzähle ich euch das jetzt? Weil mir dieses abwertende, verachtende "Es sind doch NUR Tauben...." nie mehr aus dem Kopf gegangen ist.
Ja, Tauben machen einen fürchterlichen Dreck und scheißen alles voll. Aber wer sind wir Menschen, dass wir uns immer über alles erheben und andere Lebewesen so behandeln?
Dabei ist die Taube ein uraltes Symbol des Friedens! Ich persönlich liebe es, wenn sie gurren und finde das genauso beruhigend wie das Schnurren einer Katze. Und doch wird sie von den meisten Menschen nur verachtet. Ja. Es ist alles ein Spiegel oder? Wir führen tagtäglich unsere privaten kleinen Kriege gegen alles mögliche und dann wundern wir uns, warum unsere Welt so böse ist?

Starting back from Vietnam, Southamerika, Irak, Afghanistan, Syria .. when did we really ever care about? Looking at Afrika! How many people know wich huge human crimes are celebrated there and on so many other places of the world in the near past! When did wie really really ever care?
These words shall not minor the sufferings from Ukrainians, dont get me wrong please. But when will we ever start to find a way to change this world and find a peaceful way of being humans, worth it?
