African art whether whittled from wood, painted on canvas, crafted in beads it is always an adventure.

These ad-hoc stores are erected every day by individuals to sell crafts, with few visitors to the region business is exceptionally slow, on the other side of town a similar market sells food produce by local farmers.

Many objects at first sight from curbside of road, from large to small something for all to enjoy. Normal commerce is creeping in evident from factories, most is homemade from local wood or plants in the region.

Ancestral beading knowledge shared makes delightful ornamental characters to place around a home, spend a little more time with the ladies who sit doing beadwork into powerful designs. Learn the meaning of the beads when you see traditional bracelets, necklaces, earrings or headgear on offer.

Some put their work into milk jug coverings or throws over food platters with beading trim to protect from unwanted insects, our Zulu women do spend hours sourcing materials or embroidering their own, offering good value in these remote areas on the edge of town.

Thanda Zulu was established in 2008 to empower Zulu women and to provide them an opportunity to earn a steady income and preserve a longstanding tradition. Source

Wistful visual melancholy in the paintings something that spells out the moods of Africa in warm tones or blue of the sea and sky, quirky giraffe smiling down on you each tells a story.

Oil on canvas paintings the artist will be close to share details of each. Africa is brave in colours reflecting the vibrant richness of nature echoed in the market. Oh the Baobab and Elephant, my favourites!

wistful in manner,
