Blog of the Week winners and new topic deadline: 12 July 2021

SB Winners Topic 12 July.jpg

Thank you to everyone who entered this week's Blog of the Week. We had a record number of entries - of an excellent standard. More of that below, but first:

One of the things that makes a post eligible for the prize is putting a link to your post here, i.e. in the announcement post. In addition to #bow and posting in the community. This is the last time that the panel will include contributions that don't meet this criterion - especially as - yay! - the numbers of entries grows.

The usual prize and more

As you know, the prize for the winning post is 50% of the liquid payout of these posts. Because Lizelle believes that the winning posts deserve greater rewards than they earn or that they will receive as beneficiaries from these posts, she is sponsoring an additional 20 Hive for -

  • last week's winner @thebigsweed
  • this week's winner - read on for the big reveal...

She will send the prizes directly to your wallets.

Oh, and because when we reverted to draft to check this post, all our advanced settings were before we posted; the equivalent of the 50% rewards Silver Bloggers will send the winnings direct to this week's winner once this post has paid out.

Would you like to sponsor next week's prize?

If you would like to sponsor next week's prize, please comment below.

The Small Print:
Do remember though, that while you will also be an honorary panelist, should you enter, you can't be referee and player, so your post will not be considered.

(Translation: too long; didn't (don't want to) read.... It'll just take another 5 minutes....

Get a coffee....

If you don't want to read too much, skip to the end and for the #bow winner and the new topic.

This week's contributions

It seems that this week's theme that if one could change just one thing in one's life, resonated for so many of us.

Our fearless founder and talented pastry chef, @lizelle decided, after flirting with professional cookery, that she'd chosen the right path. She was not alone in that sentiment which was that @johannpiber echoed.

A taste of Lizelle's fabulous pastry talent

Regrets...perhaps...perhaps not...

With so many entries, both difficult and impractical to mention every contribution. Why not search using the #bow tag and pop over and read the contributions. Remember that even though payout dates may have gone, you can still comment and reward deserving posts by sending a tip.

Special mention

This week, one of the entries reinforced how special the Hive community is, and how the virtual world is a level playing field. Although the Silver Bloggers' community, we say, is for the more mature, over 40s, anyone can join. That's how the blockchain works. We do, though, reserve the right to enforce these criteria for upvotes and challenges. We also reserve the right to have the odd exception to the rule.

So it is with @soyjudith (who is a more than a decade and a half away from 40) and the story of her profound sadness after losing her grandmother and learning of the sacrifice she had made.

Judith's grandmother with her mother

Goes to show that nobody's too young - or too old - to learn. Thank you, Judith, for joining this silver band of bloggers!

The silver selection - the top 3

Again there were three shining contributions. All of them poignant and bittersweet:

Not writing and now writing more

Although @farm-mom laments not writing more, she delights in the memories in handwritten letters and photographs. These have lead her to resolve to write more. To record the family's history for her children and their children's children. What a gift!

Real writing

On not being there

Regular contributor, @carolynstahl's poignant piece about having been young and selfish (weren't we all, at times?) hits hard. It's brave and sad and, I hope, for her, cathartic.

Carolyn's father with her daughter

There is something symbolic about this picture and Carolyn's resolve at the end of her post.

Blog of the Week: a letter to a grandmother

@justclickindiva's contribution was a unanimous choice. It's an object lesson in how time sometimes does not heal.

Source

Hello Grandmother. I'm your middle granddaughter. I'm now a senior citizen

Those three sentences speak of unspeakable confusion and pain. Three generations and how, sometimes, the quest is endless. It's a hard and recommended read.

What @justclickindiva wins

@justclickindiva wins 50% of rewards on this post so her account has been set as a beneficiary.

but that's not all

She also wins 20 Hive from @lizelle.

Theme for the week ending 17 July 2021

This week's theme is close to home. A little while ago, subscribers were invited to pick a name that would be unique to the community. @lizelle offered prizes - check the winners here. When you choose a "silver" name, the administrators update your role in the community from subscriber to member - with your chosen name.

Silver Blogger members and their Sassy Silver names

The theme for the new week is about names. We want to hear the backstory behind your Sassy Silver name (and if you don't have one, comment below, and we'll do the rest), or your Hive handle. So, tell us -

"What's with your name?"

If you have topic suggestions, please leave them in the comments?

Themes can be what you will and content creators will make of them what they will.

  5. Share the link to your post in the comments of this post.

The Small Print

Although anyone can subscribe to our community, to be eligible for prizes, you do need to meet our community criteria, which are set out on our page, at the end of this post and include that you:

  • are over 40 years of age, i.e. born in 1981 or before
  • have a passion for crypto blogging

Deadlines

The contest closes at midnight GMT (also known as UTC) on Monday 12 July 2021 and the winners will be announced later the following week.

The panel and a bit of housekeeping
Thanks as always to the panel headed up by @lizelle, with @papilloncharity, @ericvancewalton, @tarazkp and I (@fionasfavourites). We may, from time to time contribute to #bow, but will not be considered for prizes.

A special word for @tarazkp: he's had some nasty health issues (he's been writing about them, so I'm not speaking out of school). That said, he may take a necessary break - for holiday and healing. Taraz, whether you do or don't is up to you. Either way we hope you are soon back to full, rude health.
