Singing in the rain

McGregor always gets at least one January thunderstorm. Even in drought years. So it was yesterday and when it broke two days of 37°C plus scorching heat.

These photos give one a sense of what happens in our streets.

In less just over an half an hour, 22mm of rain.

The first, blessings of the year. Thunder and lightning and hail.

Hmm...22mm as the first rain in 2022...auspicious? Good omen? I hope so.

The broke the heat and wilting humidity. The temperature dropped to 25°C from 38°C within an hour.

After growing up with summer thunderstorms, in the Eastern Cape and then living in Johannesburg for seven years, thirty plus years later, I miss them. When they happen, I literally sing in the rain.

Then the most glorious sunset and shepherd's delight of red skies.

Oh, and the cherry on the top: on Saturday there was a potentially nasty veld (wild fire) on the edge of the village. There is no chance, after that deluge, that any of those even warm embers will not will have been left with any glow.

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised appplications.
  • From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.
