Acceptance is the key

Are you ever in a situation where you are really busy and must get a task done within a set time but you are confronted with interruption after interruption. Phone calls or visitors coming to chat. Or perhaps you have planned with a fellow colleague to co-present training but that morning the colleague rings to say he/she cannot come. Or maybe you need to get to an important appointment you have waited for a few months and due to traffic congestion you miss it.

How accepting are you with interruptions, delays, not getting your tasks done or not getting to prearranged meetings time/appointments? It is completely understanding to feel angst, annoyed, helpless, frustrated or just plain angry. Lack of control and a lack of choice tends to produce negative emotions, very human to do so. And all so easy to slide into tantrumming. Maybe many of us can claim to have done this at one time or other.

Of course it is very individual how we behave in stressful situations. How well one handles interruptions and delays is dependent on a number factors like one's personality, the degree of importance one places on the tasks, the number of interruptions, the level of frustration and amount of time one has and so on.

How is your ability in problem-solving? Are you able to tell yourself that it does not matter if the task is not done until later? Can you be flexible and clock off with phone calls and visitors dropping in for cake and tea? It is so much more helpful to your health and wellbeing, your mindset and feelings to go with the flow.

I guarantee that the challenges of dealing with stressful interruptions is ongoing even when a silver blogger. Going with the flow is an ongoing learning experience.

It is as it is and that there is always a reason for everything. Nothing is by chance.

What helps with the development of flexibility?

Expect interruptions and be prepared to go with the flow as much as is possible for you. Staying patient and calm is a good idea. Accepting that some days are harder than other days is the key. Anyway, at the end of the day take the opportunity to retreat into nature to loosen the stressed shoulders and neck, breathe the fresh air and be at one with the trees and flowers. I guarantee you won't regret it.

oooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo

My eyes focus on the bright pink, breathing out my stress and breathing in the petal flower beauty of a sole petunia growing in a pot in my backyard. Thank goodness I have some flowers nearby to help me relax at the end of the day.
