Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for tuesday the 12th day of January, 2024. The EPL is back after midweek matches that were played by teams in the Carabao Cup semi-final finals and the FA Cup matches.
Tonight, Burnley who are in the 19th position on the league table host Luton (18th) on the table in big game at bottom of Premier League. Clarets, as Burnley are called, are five points from safety after two successive losses while Hatters (Luton) will move out of relegation zone with victory. The game is poised for a draw (1-1). It is at 90+3' as at the time of this report. Let's see how it will end at the end of the day.
Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from Haiti. He finds out that on this day in 2010, a magnitude-7.0 earthquake ravaged Haiti, particularly Port-au-Prince, killing over 200,000 people and displacing over 1,000,000 others, sparking a large international relief effort.
From Haiti, Larry goes to space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 2005, Deep Impact, a US space probe, was launched, and in July it shot a 370-kg (810-pound) mass into the nucleus of the comet Tempel 1 to examine its cometary structure.
From space exploration, Larry goes to the tech world. He finds out that on this day in 1964, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com and a crucial figure in the evolution of e-commerce, was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.A
From the tech world, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1932, Hattie Ophelia Caraway became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate.
From the USA, Larry goes to South Africa. He finds out that on this day in 1916, P.W. Botha, South Africa's prime minister (1978-84) and president (1984-89), was born in Paul Roux, South Africa.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history also from Germany. He finds out that during this month in 1909, Hermann Minkowski, a German mathematician who established the geometrical theory of numbers and made important contributions to number theory, mathematical physics, and relativity theory was born in Göttingen, Germany. His proposal of combining the three dimensions of physical space and time into a four-dimensional "Minkowski space"—space-time—laid the mathematical foundations for Albert Einstein's special theory of relativity.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
Let's now move over to the hunt for Larry...
