Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for monday, the 18th day of December, 2023. The UEFA Champions League draws for the group stages was done today. It also threw up some exciting matches. The Napoli v Barcelona and Inter Milan v Atletico Madrid matches appear to be the standout ones. English teams were however handed "very kind" draws with FC Copenhagen v Manchester City and FC Porto v Arsenal. One hopes that these two remaining English teams will continue to fly the flag of EPL as the competition progresses. Larry then turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution, banning slavery, formally entered into force, by proclamation of the United States Secretary of State, having been ratified by the required states on December 6.
Still in the USA, Larry finds out that on this day in 2019, President Donald Trump became the third president of the United States to be impeached by the House of Representatives, which charged him with abuse of authority and obstruction of Congress.
From the USA, Larry goes to Czech Republic. He finds out that on this day in 2011, Václav Havel, a Czech writer, poet, and political dissident who served as president of Czechoslovakia (1989-92) and the Czech Republic (1993-2003) and was a key figure in the 1968 liberal reforms (the Prague Spring), died in Hrádeček, Czech Republic.
From Czech Republic, Larry goes to South Korea. He finds out that on this day in 1997, Kim Dae-Jung was elected President of South Korea, becoming the country's first opposition leader to do so.
From South Korea, Larry goes to Germany. He finds out that on this day in 1917, General Erich Ludendorff of Germany ordered the merger of the country's major motion-picture studios to become UFA (Universum Film-Aktien Gesellschaft).
Still in Germany, Larry finds out that on this day in 1913, Willy Brandt, leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany from 1964 to 1987, chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) from 1969 to 1974, and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1971, was born in Lübeck, Germany.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today from the world of music and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1980, Christina Aguilera is an American pop singer who rose to prominence during the late 1990s adolescent pop explosion and achieved virtually instant commercial success was born in Staten Island, New York, U.S.A.
Larry also loves Christina Aguilera's songs and here is one of this songs that he loves listening most times. It it titled "Genie In A Bottle"
And another one titled "Beautiful"
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
