Larry Is Alive #199 November 30, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Thursday, the 30th day of November, 2023. It is officially the last day of the month of November. Larry is grateful to God for seeing him through November and also prays for his divine guidance as we have entered the last few days of the year.

English teams were on fire in the various European competitions today. Liverpool, for instance, have reached the last 16 of the Europa League as group winners with an emphatic (4-0) victory over LASK at Anfield. Brighton & Hove Albion on their own beat AEK Athens (0-1) away to book their spot in the knockout phase of the Europa League while Aston Villa beat Legia Warsaw (2-1) and moved above them at the top of Europa Conference League Group E. After watching that match, Larry then turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Barbados. He finds out that on this day in 1966, Barbados, a Caribbean island republic located about 100 miles (160 km) east of the Windward Islands, earned internal self-rule in 1961 and complete independence from Britain on this day in 1966.

From Barbados, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 2018, George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States from 1989 to 1993, died at the age of 94 in Houston, Texas.

From the USA, Larry goes to the world of natural gas. He finds out that on this day in 1999, Exxon and Mobil formally amalgamated to establish ExxonMobil, one of the world's largest oil and energy companies.

From the world of natural gas, Larry goes to the world of music and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1982, Michael Jackson, an American singer and composer, released Thriller, which became the best-selling album in the world and earned a record-breaking eight Grammy Awards.

From the world of music and entertainment, Larry goes to Britain. He finds out that on this day in 1874, Winston Churchill, British statesman, orator, and author who, as Prime Minister (1940-45, 1951-55), rallied the British people and led his country from defeat to triumph during World War II, was born in Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, England.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today from Finland. He finds out that on this day in 1939, after Finland declined to offer the Soviet Union a naval port and other concessions in the autumn of 1939, Soviet soldiers totaling roughly one million men assaulted Finland on numerous fronts, launching the Russo-Finnish War.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
