En este vídeo estoy nuevamente tocando el piano para ustedes, esta vez una pieza que me pareció perfecta para la temática escogida para esta semana en el Hive Open Mic: Fantasía.
In this video I am once again playing the piano for you, this time a piece that I thought was perfect for the theme chosen for this week's Hive Open Mic: Fantasy.
Sous L'eau: l'etrange spectacle d'un cirque sous-marin" ("Bajo el Agua: el extraño espectáculo de un circo submarino") es una obra de la compositora y pianista franco-canadiense Alexandra Strélisl, estrenada por ella en su primer álbum:"Pianoscope", el cual conocí y escuché completo esta semana, y me pareció en general fantástico y de ensueño y esta pieza en particular me hace pensar en criaturas fantásticas, misteriosas, seres de luz y de oscuridad que habitan y se divierten realizando sus espectáculos en el fondo del mar.
Sous L'eau: l'etrange spectacle d'un cirque sous-marin" ("Underwater: the strange spectacle of an underwater circus") is a work by French-Canadian composer and pianist Alexandra Strélisl, released by her on her first album: "Pianoscope", which I met and listened to in full this week, and found it generally fantastic and dreamy and this particular piece makes me think of fantastic, mysterious creatures, beings of light and darkness that inhabit and have fun performing their shows at the bottom of the sea.
Sus notas misteriosas también me recordaron al personaje principal de un cuento que leí hace poco: "Ondina" de Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué. En esta historia, la protagonista es la hija del rey del mar. Ella le pide a su padre que la envíe a la tierra en forma humana, porque quiere tener un alma, y allí, años después, se enamora de un humano, y al principio él le corresponde, pero luego la traiciona y esto desencadena la furia de los seres del mar, que son algo vengativos, sobretodo si se trata de las injusticias que cometen los humanos. En esta historia estos seres son descritos como muy puros y justos, bastante enigmáticos, de humor extraño y, al no tener alma, sus comportamientos suelen ser incomprensibles para los humanos y éstos les temen. Ondina no estaba conforme con su naturaleza y quería cambiar de mundo, pero al final no pudo escapar de quien realmente era, y tuvo que volver al mar, con el corazón roto y una penitencia que cumplir. Los motivos melódicos de esta pieza me recordaron no solo a su belleza y pureza, si no también a su extraña personalidad y el miedo que esta despertaba entre los humanos.
Its mysterious notes also reminded me of the main character of a story I read recently: "Ondine" by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué. In this story, the protagonist is the daughter of the king of the sea. She asks her father to send her to earth in human form, because she wants to have a soul, and there, years later, she falls in love with a human, and at first he reciprocates, but then he betrays her and this triggers the fury of the sea beings, who are somewhat vengeful, especially when it comes to the injustices committed by humans. In this story these beings are described as very pure and just, quite enigmatic, with a strange mood and, as they have no soul, their behavior is often incomprehensible to humans and they fear them. Ondina was not happy with her nature and wanted to change the world, but in the end she could not escape from who she really was, and had to return to the sea, with a broken heart and a penance to fulfill. The melodic motifs of this piece reminded me not only of her beauty and purity, but also of her strange personality and the fear she aroused among humans.
Como la estuve practicando mucho, ayer me pasó que la escuchaba entre sueños, en especial la ultima parte, que es mi favorita, y es un poco triste como el final del cuento del que les hablé. La pieza en general me parece alegre y triste a la vez.
As I've been practicing it a lot, yesterday I happened to listen to it between dreams, especially the last part, which is my favorite, and it's a little sad like the end of the story I told you about. The overall piece strikes me as both joyful and sad at the same time.
