Hive Open Mic #152 || Ibare Jesu cover by @jessicaossom

Hello everyone in the hive open mic community. Again, my name is Jessica Ossom and in line with the theme of this week which is 'Traditional song', I decided to sing a song that is popularly known among the Yorubas in Nigeria.

Initially, I planned to sing just the first song which is 'Ibare Jesus' (Jesus I worship you)

However, as soon as I started singing and was rounding up the first song, I felt a need to sing two more Yoruba songs.

I hope that you enjoy listening to this presentation.

As someone who loves music and isn't scared to explore different genres, I am usually faced with the challenge of singing with more than one key while singing a song without an instrument.

It happens a lot when I am singing without an instrument or instrumental. Most especially when it's a local song. I don't know why hehe...It's annoying.

I had done several other videos and got frustrated. I also felt like I shouldn't publish anything before finally settling for this one.

While I sang several songs, I notice that When I start a particular key on a key, I always end the song with a key different from what I started it with. @ksam can attest to this.

After recording my song as usual, but this time without an instrumental because I couldn't find one online, I decided to ask my friend here on the hive to help me add instruments with his guitar. Which he did even though he wasn't feeling too well.

I sent him the mp3 of what I had recorded. While he tried to play his guitar along with what I sang, it ended us being a lot of work because of how I was unconsciously switching from one key to another key.

I guess if I practice! practice!! practice!!!, I would learn to sing any song and be consistent with the key I started with till the end of the song.

Ksam sent me the mp3 of what he played and I loved it. It would have been much better if I had stayed consistent with the key.

After my church's choir rehearsal, I had my choir coordinator listen to it an he also played his keyboard while I recorded.

After I got home, I took my phone and tried to edit it in the way I could.

Honestly, it's not my best but I am promising myself to practice and learn to sing local songs on a consistent key with an instrument to guide mešŸ˜.

The guitar instruments was played by Ksam and the piano by my choir coordinator.
