Hive Naija Contest// My Thoughts on Immigration

Sure, immigration is one of the most discussed topics in most Nigerian communities/groups. In fact, most of my feeds on twitter are focused on ways one can 'jakpa' (immigrate). Similarly, there are a lot of agents advertising the number of people they have successfully assisted in immigrating. However, a lot of Nigerians are falling victims of fake immigration agents due to their desperate desire to immigrate. The above shows how the topic of immigration is in everyone's mind, be it young or old.

But the question is:

Why do Nigerians Immigrate?

People have several reasons to immigrate to another country. In one sense, some feel there are better opportunities out there than there are here in the country. In another sense, some tend to immigrate in order to enjoy some of the basic amenities that we lack here in Nigeria. This is solely due to the failure of the government to provide for its citizens. Also, so many professions are not appreciated in Nigeria. However, those fields are well incorporated in our educational system. What do you think is the faith of someone that studied Fishery in this country? Where can he or she work?. But yes, this course is well studied in our Universities today.

Consequently, for someone that is into such a field and graduated with an excellent grade, but nothing for him. But looking outside, there are numerous opportunities outside the country. Trust me, if you are the one, immigration would also be your next option. You can't just waste four years for nothing!

Another reason is the deteriorated state of our medical sector. Like I said, the lack of basic amenities is a strong drive for immigration. The medical sector of a country plays a key role in keeping the citizens together. Without going into much details, a better medical sector would attract a significant amount of settlers.

In fact, there are so many reasons why people think about immigration. The issue of security is very vital. However, it depends on what the one needs that's not available at his current position.

What I think about immigration

Immigration has its good and bad aspects. I support immigration if the sole reason is for the development of one's country. The youths are the focal point of immigration. As the youths, we are the leaders of tomorrow — as they normally say, getting exposed and bringing whatever you have learnt back to your country for its development, is very well supported.
For there to be a significant change in our country, I believe a change in our mentality is the only driving force we need. And this change in mentality can only be possible if one interacts with people of other origins, religion, mentality and so on.

However, not all of us are destined to immigrate. Some of us need to stay and make our impacts in our little ways. And I think I am among those that will stay and keep pushing for the growth of this country. This is our country. And I won't leave it for anyone.

What I think is the way forward

I believe development is the only thing that can change people's mind on immigration. Our government has a lot to do in this regard. Electricity is one of them. We are old enough to start having 24/7 electricity in Nigeria. However, we the citizens also have a vital role to play in determining who becomes the government. By voting and supporting credible candidates that will bring change to our dear nation. I love this nation, and I will be most joyous to see a better Nigeria.

God bless Nigeria, God bless all its citizens! One love you all!.

Thanks for coming around. Have a nice day.
