@Qurator's Photo Quest for this week is "Radial Photography", and here's my entry post.

Looking at this impressive structure in my photo, can you guess where it is?

It's the dome of Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, a flagship department store in Paris. This French store chain started off from a small fashion shop on rue La Fayette in 1895, and now it has a number of stores overseas as well.

Standing at 43-metre high, the Neo-Byzantine style dome in steel and glass was ringed by grand loggias. I was amazed by its radial pattern and exquisite decorations, and I just couldn't stop looking up when walking around there.

It was designed by Ferdinand Chanut in the first decade of the 20th century. Every Christmas since 1976, a big tree has been suspended from the cupola as a celebration. At times there are also other fun installations hanging from it, such as a flashy high trampoline on which people can chill and relax.

Aside from shopping here, you can attend the regular exhibitions and fashion shows hosted by the store. I enjoyed walking around inside the beautiful old building and admiring its Art Nouveau and Art Déco elements. On its rooftop terrace, you can have food and drinks with a great panoramic view of the city.
