Gent - People & Canals & Streets |

Jacques Rogge, former President of the International Olympic Committee passed away on Sunday at 79. He used to play rugby in the national team and competed for Belgium in sailing at 3 Olympic Games. I happened to visit his birthplace Gent last month, and I'm going to share some photos taken in the city (all with a light prime lens).

I first met this gem almost 10 years ago, and since then have revisited it many times. Situated at the confluence of 2 rivers, Gent was a booming city-state in medieval times. You can clearly see its glory from all the quaint ancient architecture in town. Today, it's still a bustling cultural hub hosting a variety of fun festivals, such as the famous ten-day-long Gentse Feesten, a music and theatre festival, Ghent Jazz Festival, Festival of Flanders, and Ghent Film Festival.

I have always recommended this charming city to my friends who planned to visit Belgium. Though well known as a port city and university town in the country, Gent seemed to be less known than Bruges, Brussels and Antwerp among foreign tourists, especially when they are from faraway Asia. In this post, I'm showing you some scenes of people and streets along its canals. Pictures of other themes will follow in future ones.
