Hi From Hive : My Relationship Between Hive and Me

Hello Cowards,

That how I want to start a conversation with people who don't take risks and try new things. I think they're cowards. Scared of trying something different.

Recently I had my third year anniversary on HIVE (Steemit then, now HIVE), You can read the post right here. A lot of what I will say in this post is echoed in that one, but I wanted to do a post specifically, for this community and for this contest, because in a lot of ways, that is part of my relationship with Hive.

To tell the story of my relationship with Hive, I have to talk about Steemit.

Starting Out :

Three years ago, I was coming home to my apartment in Atlanta, on the turnoff next to Magic City (home of trapped music, and not a magic club), there was a big billboard up, it said "Join Steemit". I remember reading about the platform and thought, why not? That night, I joined the waitlist and a few days later (perhaps a week?) I got an invitation to join. It wasn't like how it is now... you had to actually wait or pay money.

I remember at first, I was very confused and didn't understand the platform... I tried out many applications built on Steemit and games, one of which was a freelancing dapp (https://steemgigs.org/). I responded to a call-out for a graphic designer.

This is where I met @chrisrice, a person who would have had a profound impact on my experiences here. To be honest, I took a chance with Chris, and we worked together on a few projects. I made some graphics for him, he seemed cool, so we kept talking and our friendship grew.

I grew very frustrated with Steemit a few times, and a few times, I almost rage-quit, especially when the price of Steem at the time was falling, I was getting no votes, and life stresses were mounting. However, Chris and I often talked, and he helped guide me, and really show me what the potential this platform had. I credit him as being one of the main reasons why I decided to stay.

Shortly after my 1-year anniversary, I found myself moving from Atlanta, GA, to Vietnam for a radical change in my life. Steemit, was at the time still sorta just a fun side thing to me, but it did give me an objective every day to kind of achieve, and getting votes felt good. I kept powering up at the time, Steem.

I remember being quite excited about trying to reach the Bangkok Steem Fest, and that was a goal that led me to Vietnam as well.

Onto the Second Year :

The friendship with Chris kept growing through my personal life terminals, until eventually Chris talked about a new project, he and some others were building on Steemit at the time, and asked if I would like to join. With a bit of hesitation, I did agree and said yes. That choice changed my life in a lot of ways.

After this, the great Hard Fork (Steemit < Hive) happened, and I found my crypto holdings double overnight. That act had a huge impact on my financial well-being. I think I went from having about $5,000 USD powered up, to now having $10,000 USD after I dropped Steem and did 100% on the new HIVE platform.

It took courage to believe in the HIVE platform at that time... But I really appreciated the message and the vibe that was coming from the new Hive chain, it spoke to me. I powered up into HIVE, and that is where the bulk of my HP comes from, that HF.

Also, after the HF from Steem, the project that Chris was working on, was ported to HIVE, and it was full speed ahead with that as well. The project they were developing was D.Buzz!

I remember all this was happening just as the first lockdown was happening here in Vietnam. Shortly after that, D.Buzz hired me on as a content developer and marketer.

This took a lot of courage on their part as well, to believe in someone that they never met in person (* and to this day still haven't met in person), but to be united by a common cause, to be united on the Hive platform, takes a lot of courage.

At first, the challenge to develop and post content every day for @dbuzz on Hive, seemed almost like an insurmountable task. Graphics and writing, research and more. I do admit that I dropped the ball here and there, but throughout this all, Chris and @Dbuzz stood with me.

Here it is about a year or so after the HF, since joining the D.Buzz team, posting every day to @dbuzz and, more recently, every day to my personal account. To put it in no small way, this friendship, this work, was and still is, life - altering, and it comes from this blockchain, from Hive.

Beyond all this, I recently started to post every day on my own account, about my hobby and passion, photography. This is motivation and inspiration for me to get out and take more photos (Which is a passion of mine), to explore and grow, while also earning a bit of side money here and there, whilst growing passive returns, passive returns that are beginning to build towards a stable future.

Today

Since being in Vietnam, and after the HF, I've been actively working to try and onboard additional contributors to Hive, and this has led to some fun interactions and friendships locally.

My good friend @TrangBaby, I helped her to join Hive in August of last year. She has been instrumental in helping to rekindle the Vietnamese community on Hive (*It was once large on Steemit, but died. She is now leading a charge to grow it again, but this time on HIVE). To see the passion with which she writes and connects with people, is amazing.

So what is my relationship between HIVE and Me?

At first, it took courage to believe in something that seemed abstract. It took courage to believe in strangers that I've met on this platform would become close friends, it took courage to believe in the platform when it was just starting out after the hard fork...

In a lot of ways, the relationship between Hive and me is a testament to what can happen when you believe, when you have the courage to try something new, when you have the courage to step outside your comfort zone, and say yes to a new experience.

Saying yes, being courageous, believing in the platform and using Hive, has made me increasingly financially stable, and has brought new friends into my life.

It is for these reasons and a few others that I feel comfortable promoting Hive to others, and why I wanted to share this story with this community and document it.

Thank you

You are by no means a coward. You too have taken the courageous steps to embark on a new experience, to put your belief and trust here. Or if you haven't yet and you're reading this for the first time, I encourage you to be courageous, say yes to an experience and give it a try for a year. I can almost guarantee you be happier one year from now, if you start today.

Cheers and thank you for taking the time to read my post, I hope found it entertaining. :D
