Hi all 😎
I want to share with you all my first post here and exploration from this once Iconic, Rinella Movie Park, at Fort st. Rocco street.
It is located in Kalkara, Malta
Close by the Malta Film Studios, where they still film movies, especially when it involves water/sea. Even big movies like the Game of Thrones and Troy.
I lived in 2019 to 2020 in Malta for a year and could explore the Island well. As it is rather tiny 😉
This Movie Park was built in 1998 and was abandoned in 2000, just 2 years later… it is still there… in ruins and left alone for over 20 years.
I took the photos on 21 June 2020.
You can easily find an opening in the fence on the left side when you follow the path along the left towards the sea, there are chairs and rocks to step up on and off on, then you walk back to the front and the entrance of the park. The gate is open.
ENTER
A little bit about the park first:
It was an amusement park, part of a bigger film facility, that was focussed on movies with restaurants, children's play areas and areas that looked like movie sets you could explore.
Some of the movies that were filmed in Malta:
“U571 from 2000”
“Raise the Titanic from 1980”
“Christopher Columbus the discovery from 1992”
These you saw back in the park.
Also a themed Jumanji restaurant you could find there.
Location on Google map. See the red pin
Let’s walk through the park 😊 past the gate.
The first long building you see. You can enter easily.
Lots of murals on the walls, that are part of the park, covered by graffiti after abandonment.
Still furniture left in it. Piled in a corner.
As we leave the building and walk to the side you see these murals on the outside.
A ticket office, outside in the path along it, there are these stars ⭐️ In the path.
Inside it was all empty.
As we walk further we get to the Jumanji building… let’s go up 😎
You have some amazing views from up here.
The dark wooden building was another restaurant.
Part of Malta… in the distance Valletta and Sliema. Very built up as you can see.
Let’s enter the Jumanji building… lots to see 😉
Ornaments on the ceilings…
And on the sides.
And ceiling again.
At the end of the building we can view outside the burned window and see this:
Hhhmmm interesting. Let’s go down again and around the building.
Past the restaurant
We walk further.
And find the kids play area. A swing and carrousel.
On the left side we find a part of a ship.
Walking up we see in the ground.
With a view towards the carrousel
Let’s walk further. And look into the building on the left.
Finally we found the area with the canon.
And the back of the Jumanji building we looked out of.
On the left side are more buildings, some burned heavily.
General store.
More buildings and their insides.
Textures… 😎
As we walk further we are back at the back of the wooden restaurant.
Some flowers along the way.
And back towards the beginning.
Before we leave through the gate I discovered the entrance sign.
Let’s go out and finish our exploration through this Movie Park.
As we walked back to the hole in the fence I found this little creature on my path.
A rather thin chameleon.
Hope you enjoyed my photos of this urban exploration inside the abandoned Movie Park in Malta.
Thank you for looking and reading.😊
Any questions or comments, let me know. Always happy to help.
Have a great day all 😎
Grtz Jackie
