Pero esto es sólo la parte física y material de este sentimiento. El sentimiento de pertenencia es mucho más que eso, porque pertenecer es tener un lugar donde te sientes plenamente cómodo y puedes ser tú mismo y este lugar no siempre es un lugar físico sino que también lo puedes encontrar estando con gente. El primer lugar de pertenencia es nuestro grupo familiar: mi mamá, mi papá, mis hermanos, mis abuelos. Todos ellos son míos y lo expreso utilizando un adjetivo posesivo para decir que me pertenecen. En el momento en que vuelves sientes que todo es tuyo (mi casa, mi habitación) nada ha cambiado y estás en el lugar al que perteneces. Con esto volví a la parte material pero es inevitable sentirse parte de un lugar donde están las personas que quieres y donde sabes que eres bienvenido. >A clear example of the sense of belonging to your home is that no matter how long you go without visiting your parents, without being in the house where you grew up and without sleeping in the room of your childhood and adolescence. Estos hermanos y hermanas de la vida son tus compañeros, cómplices y aunque a veces haya malentendidos, siempre sabrás que no hay que preocuparse porque el sentimiento de que pertenecemos al mismo grupo es mutuo. >The same thing happens with our friendships, when we find one or more people with whom we feel good and accept us with our virtues and defects grows that feeling of brotherhood that makes you love a person as much as if he were your family and sometimes we come to love these best friends more than our own family or at least more than distant relatives. No, es un sentimiento que, como una planta, requiere otros componentes como abono, sol y agua. Del mismo modo, sentir que perteneces a un grupo de personas o a un lugar también requiere afecto, empatía, honestidad y compromiso. Cuántos de nosotros hemos creído pertenecer a un grupo de amigos, a un lugar, a un trabajo o a una relación amorosa, pero por falta de estos componentes dejamos de sentirnos bien y acabamos decepcionados e incluso frustrados por todo aquello que creíamos ser pero no éramos. >But the feeling of belonging is not something that grows and stays that way. Si vamos a un sentido más amplio, podemos hablar de nacionalismo. Desde niños en la escuela nos enseñaron a tener sentido de pertenencia con nuestros Símbolos Patrios, Símbolos Naturales y hasta con el equipo deportivo que representa a nuestro país en una competencia nacional o internacional. Nos sentimos orgullosos de ser venezolanos y se nos erizan los brazos cuando vemos la Bandera o escuchamos nuestro Himno Nacional en un evento internacional. Para mí ese es el sentimiento de pertenencia, el que te hace sentir orgulloso del lugar y del grupo al que perteneces. >If we go to a broader sense, we can talk about nationalism. Since we were children in school, we were taught to have a sense of belonging to our National Symbols, Natural Symbols and even to the sports team that represents our country in a national or international competition. We feel proud to be Venezuelan and our arms stand on end when we see the Flag or hear our National Anthem in an international event. For me that is the feeling of belonging, the one that makes you feel proud of the place and the people you belong to.
