I think what he was trying to get at is focusing on what you want to market and not getting distracted and helping to create an intuitive experience for users and helping them not get distracted ... just maybe a clumsy way of stating it?
If you want an understandable and easy to use product then DO THAT don't assume taking away options is the only way to get there... thats a lazy solution much of the time
