Hive Engine has recently launched a peer to peer consensus layer to help secure the ecosystem upon which SPORTS is built. This new system allows us to validate that the data being stored isn't corrupted or falsified in any manner.

This proposal is aimed at launching our own witness for the Hive Engine second layer under the @sportswitness account. Using that account I will operate a HE witness node using a VPS provided by Privex. The witness account will be added to the @sports-gov management system so that the community can decided how any rewards earned from our witness node gets spent using the existing proposal system.

The Proposal

I would like to operate the @sportswitness as a node to validate the data for the Hive Engine 2nd layer on behalf of the SPORTS community. This node will be run on a 24/7 available server hosted in Sweden and will help to ensure that the transactions published on the network are valid. This proposal will fund running this node for 2 months.

Hive Engine witnesses are allocated 100,000 BEE each year for securing the network. Since this witness would be backed by the community I would like to set the @sportswitness account to be managed by @sports-gov to manage any earnings that might be gained from running the node. This will allow anyone to create a proposal and spend/send any of the witness earnings back into the SPORTS ecosystem.

This proposal is more of an introductory test for adopting this into our tribe. I've only reserved two months of delegation and have already paid for two months of hosting from Privex with plans to do a second proposal for the witness node after a few weeks of it being available. I figure that gives us an opportunity to test the witness waters while still being flexible enough to go in other directions if for any reason there's less value for the community than they'd like to see.

Note: This is not for running a Hive witness node. This is for running a witness on the Hive Engine second layer. If this project is successful and there's community interest I would be willing to look at expanding this to a Hive witness for future proposals.

The Costs

image.png

There are only a couple of costs associated with running a Hive Engine witness node that I've detailed below. In total it will cost roughly $25 or 533,333 SPORTS for two months of operating the witness node.

Privex Server (333,333 SPORTS)

The software requires at least 2 processing cores, 4gb of RAM and 30GB of SSD space available. Privex offers this server for $10 a month.

Hive Power Delegation (100,000 SPORTS)

According to existing witness reports, a Hive Engine witness account should have at least 1,000 HP to provide enough resource credits for the functions needed. I was able to purchase a dlease for 8 weeks at 28 Hive.

Proposal Refund (100,000 SPORTS)

I would like to add 100,000 SPORTS as a refund for this proposal cost.

Benefits to SPORTS

The biggest benefit to stakeholders is the added decentralization to the Hive Engine ecosystem. While this node doesn't give us any added benefits beyond the existing 2nd layer deployment it does however give us an in house system to valid the Hive Engine data integrity.

Additionally there is the potential of witness earnings from the node. I don't anticipate these to recoup the cost of running the node but since the payment is being sent to me I can assure you that I plan to power up my earnings and keep them off the market.
