In our featured game yesterday, Aston Villa sank to their 5th league defeat in succession after a 3rd-minute goal by Adam Armstrong put them straight onto the back foot.
It was most definitely a very clichéd game of two halves as Villa were completely clueless after the goal and were running around like headless chickens as the Southampton resurgence continued without quite managing to get a second goal.
The second half was a different matter with Villa like a different team, I'd loved to have been a fly on the wall in that dressing room. Villa were suddenly winning the 50-50s and fighting hard and went very close on a couple of notable occasions and also had a strong penalty claim turned down but ultimately, it wasn't to be but there was enough potential shown to perhaps allow Dean Smith to keep his job for another week.
We're back to the Premier League today with the tea-time kick off between...
This has to be a three-pointer for Brighton against a rudderless, shambles that has sadly befallen Newcastle whose new owners have done nothing so far to stop the rot and that sees their club still only having picked up 4 points in 10 games and sitting 6 points from safety.
One more International break and it's almost Christmas and if they don't start getting points on the board, I don't see any way back from the relegation zone.
Three points for the Seagulls today would put them firmly back in the coveted European spots and after a brave and daring 2-2 draw against Liverpool, which they were for most parts the better side, confidence will be high.
No one is reporting any injury worries so it ought to be a good day at the office at home for Brighton.
Prediction: Brighton 2 : 0 Newcastle - First goal scorer: Maupay
Simply write the name of the FIRST GOALSCORER and the CORRECT SCORE as a comment. The competition closes 5 minutes before kick-off which is 17:30 GMT
The Small Print
In the first goalscorer competition, own goals do not count. In the correct score competition, it's the score after 90mins. Extra time and penalties do not count and the pot for each competition will roll over if there is no winner. If more than one person chooses the same first goal scorer or correct score, the prize is shared, and everyone gets a little upvote! It seems I also need to add, one entry per person. Don't forget the new rule that only people with a rep of 50 or above are eligible to enter unless they have been approved. The bonus will be added to any winnings ONLY if Leeds United win and/or Man U lose and all pay-outs will never exceed 50% of post-pay-out. Other bonuses are paid out at my discretion.
And the winners were...
Winners again today with three of you getting the 1-0 win but again, no one hot the first goal-scorer so the tokens raise up.
Well done to @anderssinho, @emma001 and @numpypython who get a slightly round up share of 5000 tokens and take home 1700 each.
And that clears up another day! Tomorrow there's a big game on so I'm possibly not going to post as I spend the day in a dark room manifesting a win and meditating! Everyone else, have a great weekend and stay safe and sane.
