Another distasteful gameweek for Liverpool.

This season so far has been filled with ups and downs for Liverpool. Sadly, the downs are too overwhelming and this gameweek is one of those with so many downside in the game we played against a bottom table, Nottingham Forest.

How can anyone justify that we won Manchester City just a week ago only to play in such a distasteful manner against a bottom-table team?

I keep calling Nottingham Forest a bottom-table team and it's not intended to take anything away from them. To put things into perspective; while Liverpool was on its way to securing a quadruple a few months ago, Nottingham Forest was playing in the championship.

How on Earth did Liverpool fall so low?

What's going on?

I know that we are already in all sorts of mess because of injury. For example; Nunez, Jota, Diaz, Thiago, Konate, Matip, Keita and a bunch of other players are injured at the moment.

While these lads are injured, those who are fit seem to be struggling to consistently maintain their form. Virgil, Trent, Salah, Fabinho and Gomez come to mind. It's becoming normal to see Elliot, Carvalho, Milner and Henderson in our line-up week in and week out. I like these lads, but we can't have them as starters if we want to compete for silverware.

Yeah, these are a couple of other things that can be tabled as a 'possible justification' for the poor winning record we have this season. But it's hard to recognize these things when we play a whole 95 minutes of football against Nottingham Forest without scoring a goal.

Not even a disallowed goal 🤕.

Where do we go from here?

Before the beginning of this season, so many pundits and football fans counted Liverpool as one of the teams that can go toe-to-toe with Manchester City in contention for the Premier League. At the moment, our chances of getting into the top 4 is getting low. Dreaming for the league title will be too much of a stretch.

The only hope we have at the moment is the international break which is on the way because of the FIFA World Cup. Most of the injury cases we have will likely be over after the World Cup and we will have an opportunity to also go shopping for decent players in the January transfer window.

Unfortunately, I don't think FSG are ambitious enough to splash a good €150m in January. Aside from that, I wonder how things will be with Liverpool before that period.

What a time to be a Liverpool fan!

Where do you think Liverpool will be in the EPL table by January?
