What I'm Watching this Weekend

If you are a fan of American sports, there are quite a few events this weekend that you are going to want to pay attention to. I figured I would take the time to break a couple of them down here for you in case you honestly care.

My father in law doesn't do a very good job of keeping up with the schedule of some of his favorite teams. I often have to text him to remind him that they are playing or when they are playing. Consider this the Hive version of that text message.

These are the things you are going to want to be watching this weekend.

College Football

Let's get college football out of the way first. There are something like five teams who are currently undefeated in Division I. Two of them are in the Big 10, one of them is in the ACC, and the final two are in the SEC.

Those two in the SEC are going head to head this weekend at 3:30 PM EST. #1 Tennessee versus #3 Georgia. This is going to be the one game you need to watch this weekend. It is going to have some pretty big implications for the end of the season. It is also probably the most important game we have seen so far this season. A close second would be the Tennessee/Alabama game and of course the upcoming Ohio State/Michigan game. There is a good chance both of those teams will enter that contest undefeated as well.

Tennessee/Georgia is going to be a good one to bet on. Georgia is the favorite I think, but Tennessee has the momentum going for them. Both teams are explosive on offense, so it could come down to how well the defense plays on each team.

Don't quote me on it, but this one is going to be a barn burner! I honestly think if it wasn't for the World Series they might have moved this game to the primetime slot.

If you did tune in for a prime time game, I would probably recommend the #6 Alabama/#10 LSU game. If only to cheer against Bama. Really though, if you are watching sports on Saturday night you should be watching game six of the world series.

The World Series

Saturday night at 8:03 PM EST Game six of the World Series takes place in Houston, TX. With the series sitting at 3 - 2 in Houston's favor, a win on Saturday night clinches the championship for them. Given it is a home game and they have gotten through the wild card that is Justin Verlander, I think they have a good chance of earning the trophy.

It's not that Verlander isn't good, he just doesn't do well in big games like this. In fact, the game last night was his first World Series win despite the fact that he has played three world series in three different decades.

Valdez was pretty lights out in his last start in game 2. The Phillies are hungry though, so I think this could be a really good game. Especially if you like cheering for the underdog. The Philadelphia regular season of 87-75 is a far cry from the Houston record of 106-56. This is definitely a Cinderella story and you are going to want to tune in.

My niece is playing in a softball tournament in Tennessee this weekend. Her new team has been really good about streaming the games, so I am confident we are going to be watching quite a bit of that this weekend as well.

NFL

I'm not telling you to watch this, but I will for sure be tuning into the Green Bay/Detroit game at 1:00 PM EST on Sunday. Let's just say I am a glutton for punishment. The fact is, Green Bay isn't that good this year with a record of 3-5. It could just take a little bit of luck for the 1-6 Lions to beat them. Given it is a home game, anything could happen. Of course the officials could steal the win away from them as usual too. Who knows.

If you had to watch any game on Sunday, I would probably point you in the direction of the Tennessee/Kansas City game. Both teams have a record of 5-2, so this could be a big game for each of them. If the Titans lose, they will still be at the top of their division, even if Indianapolis wins against New England (which they probably won't (don't put money on that though)).

If Kansas City loses and the Chargers win, they will be in a tie for first place in the AFC West.

There is still a lot of season ahead of us, but I still think this will be one of the better games this weekend.

Do you have any exciting sporting events on your schedule for this weekend?

That little soccer thing called the World Cup is coming up pretty soon right? :)
