Pints of Guinness and Fantasy Football for Beer Saturday

Raise a glass for Beer Saturday

It's Saturday again folks meaning that a few like-minded beer enthusiasts under the expert stewardship of the main man @detlev share some beers of the world. You might even get a story, a joke, a rundown of a great night out or an even better night in.

Tuesdays and Saturdays are my two favourite days on Hive, Tuesday for Three Tune Tuesday and all of the great music we are spoiled with and Saturday for having a few well earned brews.

This week the tipple of choice was Guinness, which always goes down well in the colder Winter months.

A good friend of mine was down to Galway for the night meeting a bunch of lads he knew from around the country. They were all Fantasy Football fanatics. I used to play every year, but I didn't get around to it this year, and the break has actually been nice to be honest!

The Guinness was flowing well as you can see below.

Fantasy Football Robbery

So, the guys who organised the get together organised a Fantasy Football contest just for the week. It was a fiver in, with prizes for first, second and third.

I said I'd throw a team in for the shits and the giggles. Though I hadn't played all year, so I signed up a team especially for the day. This meant that due to price rises my 100 Million would not go as far as in gameweek 1.

Better to be involved for the craic and sure it was only a fiver. 37 others got involved so there was a fairly juicy pot of €165 up for grabs.

The first thing I did was take a punt on going without Haaland, surely a crazy idea, but he was 12.2M so I opted for Kane instead who was a bit cheaper at 11.5M

That 0.7 could be invested elsewhere in my team and allow some stronger defenders.

Almirón, Martinelli and De Bruyne were straight in and I took a punt on Salah too. I also went double Arsenal defense as I fancied them to keep Wolves out away at Molineux.

Well it turned out to be inspired. Most guys captained Haaland, who fired a blank and got a yellow, while my captain Kane scored one, assisted one and picked up 2 bonus points for a cool 22 point haul. The double Arsenal defence also worked really well netting me 14 points from Saliba and White at the back.

I romped to first place within a Fantasy Football fanatics group and was thrilled with my 75 point haul, with my closest rival only managing 62 points.

A great days work. I was going to earn over €100 for drinking pints and knowing something about football. I had to head home around 9pm, so my friend was going to collect my winnings. Or so I thought!

They ended up kicking me out on a technicality which I must say was very petty. I won because I was ballsy enough to go without Haaland and picked a good captain in Kane and predicted an Arsenal clean sheet.

Just one of those things and I didn't let it get to me, oh ya and the Guinnes was exceptional!! Glass half full and all that!
