Una introducción necesaria
nuestras bibliotecarias
Es reconocida su ardua labor como profesor universitario y periodista, pero sin dudas, su mayor aporte estuvo en el estudio que hizo de la bibliografía cubana y latinoamericana. En honor a su figura y todo lo realizado la fecha de su nacimiento es tomada para celebrar el Día del Bibliotecario en Cuba y reconocer la labor que realizan los hombres y mujeres que se dedican a esta labor en nuestro país.

En esta publicación el autor hará referencia a las actividades realizadas en la institución en la que labora, las principales tareas que realizan estas compañeras y el impacto de su labor en la actividad científica que se realiza en nuestro instituto.
Más que una biblioteca
El autor de la publicación atiende la Dirección Gestión del Conocimiento, correspondiente al Instituto de Geología y Paleontología que también es el Servicio Geológico de Cuba (IGP/SGC). Esta dirección tiene varios departamentos y funciones, pero como su nombre lo indica gestiona la información y el conocimiento necesarios para la investigación científica.
Dentro de los departamentos que conforman la dirección están Informática, Banco de Datos Geológicos, Sistema de Gestión de la Calidad, Comunicación y el Centro nacional de Información Geológica (CNDIG). Este último juega un papel importante dentro de la dirección y el centro porque agrupa al Archivo técnico del centro, la Editorial CNDIG y la biblioteca. Por tal razón, en nuestro centro este lugar de libros, folletos, mapas, informes, proyectos, tesis de maestrías y doctorados es mucho más que una biblioteca; lo que nos ha llevado a extender el reconocimiento más allá de las graduadas o Técnicas en Gestión de la Información.
Nuestras bibliotecarias y sus tareas
Gran importancia reviste la labor que realizan estas abnegadas trabajadoras. No se puede concebir la labor investigativa sin su presencia, experticia y labor incansable. Cada vez que se necesita saber de un documento, revista, libro o informe de la institución se le pregunta a una de estas compañeras y con su memoria fotográfica pueden decirnos, casi al seguro, si está en la biblioteca o no.
Ellas realizan varias tareas que consideramos necesario destacar:
en la feria internacinal del libro
•Búsqueda bibliográfica
•Edición de libros y artículos científicos
•Preparan a estudiantes de politécnicos y de la Universidad de la Habana que estudian la carrera Licenciatura en Gestión de la Información.
•Gestionan la revista Geoinformativa que publica nuestro centro.
•Realizan actividades de formación vocacional y orientación profesional.
•Participan en la Feria Internacional del Libro.
•Presentaciones de libros.
•Participan en congresos y ferias expositivas divulgando nuestros principales resultados científicos y los libros y materiales producidos por nuestros investigadores.

Otra labor importante que realizan es la participación en proyectos de desarrollo. Este elemento por ser el último no es menos importante porque gracias a su labor y la del resto de compañeros de la dirección se están digitalizando todos los materiales valiosos y patrimoniales de la Geología y las Geociencias que constituyen la memoria de las Ciencias Geológicas Cubanas.
Actividad de reconocimiento
el almuerzo
A partir de nuestros modestos recursos pudimos brindarles una modesta actividad a nuestras compañeras que agradecieron muchísimo. De una parte, estuvo el reconocimiento a todas por la labor realizada en este año que va del 7 de junio del 2022 hasta este 7 de junio del 2023 y en el que todas tuvieron una actitud destacada ante cada tarea.
Con el esfuerzo de los compañeros se les preparó un almuerzo que estuvo amenizado con un video que reflejó la labor de cada una de ellas en este último año, la realización de juegos de participación, anécdotas, música, y baile. Este fue nuestro modesto homenaje a nuestras compañeras, que sirvió también de agasajo, para todos los miembros de la dirección.
Un comentario final

Es mucho más grande la labor que realizan nuestras bibliotecarias que lo referido en esta publicación. En nuestro caso y gracias a ellas se está preservando la memoria histórica de las Ciencias de la Tierra del país, a partir de todo el trabajo de restauración y digitalización que realizan.
Gracias a ellas se pueden completar las investigaciones, se mejoran informes de proyectos, tesis, artículos y demás materiales que se requieren. Pero, lo más importante es la labor social que realizan y que las ubican en el centro de la comunidad en la que está enclavada nuestra institución.
Solo nos resta darle las gracias y desearle muchas felicidades a todas las bibliotecarias y bibliotecarios de Cuba por la abnegada labor que realizan.

A necessary introduction
Antonio Bachiller y Morales was born on June 7, 1812. He is considered the father of bibliography in Cuba and had an outstanding activity in different fields of Cuban intellectual life in the middle and end of the 19th century.

His hard work as a university professor and journalist is well known, but undoubtedly his greatest contribution was in the study he made of Cuban and Latin American bibliography. In honor of his figure and everything he did, the date of his birth is taken to celebrate the Librarian's Day in Cuba and to recognize the work done by the men and women who dedicate themselves to this work in our country.

In this publication the author will refer to the activities carried out in the institution where he works, the main tasks performed by these colleagues and the impact of their work in the scientific activity carried out in our institute.
More than a library
The author of this publication is in charge of the Knowledge Management Directorate, corresponding to the Institute of Geology and Paleontology, which is also the Geological Survey of Cuba (IGP/SGC). This directorate has several departments and functions, but as its name indicates, it manages the information and knowledge necessary for scientific research.
Among the departments that make up the directorate are Informatics, Geological Data Bank, Quality Management System, Communication and the National Center of Geological Information (CNDIG). The latter plays an important role within the management and the center because it groups the center's technical archive, the CNDIG publishing house and the library. For this reason, in our center this place of books, brochures, maps, reports, projects, master's and doctoral theses is much more than a library; which has led us to extend the recognition beyond the graduates or Information Management Technicians.
Our librarians and their tasks
The work performed by these dedicated workers is of great importance. Research work is inconceivable without their presence, expertise and tireless work. Whenever we need to know about a document, magazine, book or report of the institution, we ask one of these colleagues and with their photographic memory they can tell us, almost for sure, if it is in the library or not.
They perform several tasks that we consider necessary to highlight:

Another important task is the participation in development projects. This element, being the last one, is not less important because thanks to their work and that of the rest of the colleagues of the direction, all the valuable and patrimonial materials of Geology and Geosciences that constitute the memory of the Cuban Geological Sciences are being digitalized.

With our modest resources, we were able to offer a modest activity to our colleagues, for which they were very grateful. On the one hand, there was the recognition to all for the work done in this year that goes from June 7, 2022 to 2023 and in which all of them had an outstanding attitude to each task.
With the effort of our colleagues, a lunch was prepared for them that was enlivened with a video that reflected the work of each one of them in this last year, the realization of participation games, anecdotes, music, and dance. This was our modest tribute to our companions, which also served as a celebration for all the members of the management.
A final comment

The work of our librarians is much greater than what is mentioned in this publication. In our case and thanks to them, the historical memory of the country's Earth Sciences is being preserved, thanks to all the restoration and digitalization work they carry out.
Thanks to them, research can be completed, project reports, theses, articles and other required materials can be improved. But, the most important thing is the social work they do, which places them in the center of the community in which our institution is located.
It only remains for us to thank and wish many congratulations to all the librarians of Cuba for the selfless work they do.
