El pasado jueves 19 de este mes se originó dentro de la ciudad de Playa Baracoa, del municipio Bauta, en la provincia Artemisa, Cuba; lugar donde estoy trabajando como Instructor de Artes Plásticas, un evento meteorológico conocido como Tornado.
Este Tornado originado increíblemente en las proximidades de la Casa de la Cultura, institución donde trabajo, y que se encuentra en el centro de la ciudad, causó graves daños, derrumbando árboles, tumbando techos, destruyendo paredes y muros de las casas. Por estas razones nuestro colectivo de trabajadores decidió acudir el pasado lunes a prestar ayuda a aquellas familias que más sufrieron los estragos y la destrucción de sus viviendas y sus bienes.
Para nosotros la experiencia del Tornado fue muy difícil, pues este fenómeno se origino en las áreas aledañas a nuestro centro, exactamente en el mismo momento que desarrollábamos el evento “Casa en las Nubes”, al que asistían más de 40 niños y varias profesoras de una Escuela Primaria de las cercanías. La fortaleza del viento y la lluvia nos hicieron detener la actuación del actor y titiritero Leonel Vázquez y ocuparnos de proteger, junto con las maestras, a los niños para los que también fue una experiencia emocional difícil de manejar a sus cortas edades
En respuesta a una convocatoria de nuestra Directora acudimos varios miembros del colectivo el pasado lunes 23 para brindar nuestra ayuda a las familias azotadas por la fuerza destructora de los vientos y la lluvia. Tomando como punto inicial nuestra Casa de la Cultura, nos reunimos temprano en la mañana y partimos hacia el lugar llamado “La Loma", una zona de la ciudad que se ha formado por el asentamiento improvisado de nuevas familias que van llegando a la zona y aprovechan para hacer allí sus viviendas.Muchos entonces construyeron casas de madera, o apenas cuartos con pocos recursos, por lo que no tienen los requerimientos necesarios para ser viviendas fuertes. Esta es una de las razones por la que hubo tanta destrucción por el Tornado.
Ya en el barrio, encontramos una mujer joven con un niño y un adulto mayor, su esposo no se
encontraba en casa. La tarde del Tornado, ante la fuerza de los vientos y alentada por el vecino,
cuya pequeña vivienda también fue destrozada, ellos corrieron a refugiarse a otro lugar. La joven
pareja perdió parte del techo de su vivienda y sus pertenencias sufrieron bajo la humedad de las
lluvias. La pequeña habitación de los vecinos fue completamente destruida.
Así que viendo las consecuencias del desastre, nos dispusimos a ayudar. Colocamos dos tejas
de metal del techo de los vecinos al sol y sobre ellas nuestra directora y otras dos trabajadoras
extendieron la lana interior de los colchones que estaba mojada por las lluvias que llegaron junto
con el tornado. En el futuro se tendrían que rehacer los colchones que quedaron destrozados. Por otro lado los artistas visuales Vladimir , Mendiola y su hijo Pedro ayudaron a botar los restos de las tejas de fibrocemento que estaban completamente desbaratadas. Yo procedí a limpiar los escombros que quedaban dentro de la pequeña casa de los vecinos, que había sido completamente desbaratada. Ellos no se encontraban allí en ese momento, y pensé que al regresar les mejoraría el ánimo de ver el área interior de su casita ya limpia…
Supimos que representantes del gobierno habían estado en esa zona afectada cuantificando los

The young couple lost part of the roof of their house and their belongings suffered under the humidity of the rains. The neighbors' small room was completely destroyed.
So, seeing the consequences of the disaster, we set out to help. We placed two metal shingles
roof tiles in the sun and on them our director and two other workers spread the wool inside the mattresses that were wet from the rains that came along with the tornado. In the future, the mattresses that were destroyed will have to be rebuilt. On the other hand, the visual artists Vladimir, Mendiola and his son Pedro helped to throw away the remains of the fiber cement tiles that were completely destroyed. I proceeded to clean up the debris that remained inside the neighbors' small house, which had been completely dismantled. They were not there at the time, and I thought that when I returned it would improve their spirits to see the inside area of their little house already cleaned...
We learned that government representatives have been in the affected area quantifying the damage and that more material aid is on the way.
