Recientemente visité el centro de la #CDMX, la verdad es una visita obligada acá en la ciudad y aunque ya he ido varias veces, cada vez encuentro nuevas cosas que ver y lugares que visitar, o al menos nuevas perspectivas para cosas ya vistas. En esta ocasión quiero contarles sobre lugares que visité y que me parecieron impresionantes. Luego, intentaré compartiles posts más específicos sobre algunos de ellos.
La Plaza
Lo primero que me llamó la atención cuando llegué es que todos los edificios del Zócalo estaban adornados con imágenes de la flor de Noche Buena (Flor de Pascua en Cuba).
Euphorbia pulcherrima, que es su nombre científico es nativa de México y florece en la época de fin de año, lo que la hace una candidata especial para adornar durante las celebraciones de navidad y fin de año. Acá se usa como símbolo de la navidad de ahí que los edificios del Zócalo estuviesen adornados con imágenes de esta flor.
Yo creo que se ve increible. ¿Y ustedes qué creen?

La Catedral
La catedral de la Ciudad de México es destino obligado para los visitantes de la ciudad, creyentes o no creyentes. Es un edificio imponente ubicado justo a un lado de lo que fuera el Templo Mayor de la ciudad precolombina de Tenochtitlán.
En su interior cuenta con un salón principal y varias capillas secundarias, ubicadas en las paredes perimetrales del edificio.
Al fondo de la catedral se encuentra el altar mayor, confeccionado en oro, de acuerdo con el guía que escuchamos al entrar a la catedral.
Aunque es justo decir que lo que es de oro es el altar per se, no el artesonado que se encuentran en las paredes. No obbstante, el conjuto es impresionante.
El Templo Mayor
El templo es otra de las visitas obligadas cuando se recorre el centro de la CDMX, ni importa que lo hayas visitado antes es siempre una visión impresionante, aunque en esta ocasión decidimos no entrar al complejo. En su lugar visitamos una cafetería cercana para admirarlo desde una perspectiva diferente.
Resulta que el Templo se construyó en varias etapas durante la expasión y apogeo del Imperio Mexica y cada nueva expasión englobaba a la contrucción anterior. Tal y como se puede observar en la imagen donde se ve cómo una escalinata crece paralela a la otra que en realidad es más pequeña, de modo que el Templo funcionaba como una especie de muñeca rusa arquitectónica.
Justo enfrente del Templo hay un edifcio que alberga museos y autoridades culturales. A mí me parece impresionante cómo de alguna forma estas dos edificaciones se complemmentan mostrando aspectos muy diferents de la historia de México. Ambos majestuosos e impresionantes.
Pero llegó el café y mi atención se fue a otros temas más mundanos 😅.

The Square
The first thing that caught my attention when I arrived was that all the buildings in the Zocalo were decorated with images of the Noche Buena flower (Flor de Pascua in Cuba).
Euphorbia pulcherrima, which is its scientific name is native to Mexico and blooms at the end of the year, which makes it a special candidate for decorating during Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations. Here it is used as a symbol of Christmas, hence the buildings in the Zocalo were decorated with images of this flower.

The Cathedral
Mexico City's cathedral is a must-see destination for visitors to the city, believers and non-believers alike. It is an imposing building located right next to what was the Templo Mayor (Great Temple) of the pre-Columbian city of Tenochtitlán.
Inside it has a main hall and several secondary chapels, located on the perimeter walls of the building.
At the back of the cathedral is the main altar, made of gold, according to the guide we heard as we entered the cathedral.
Although it is fair to say that what is gold is the altar per se, not the woodwork of the reliefs found on the walls. Nevertheless, the complex is impressive.
The Great Temple
The Temple is another must-see when touring downtown Mexico City, no matter if you have visited it before it is always an impressive sight, although on this occasion we decided not to enter the complex. Instead we visited a nearby cafeteria to admire it from a different perspective.
It turns out that the Temple was built by stages during the expansion and apogee of the Mexica Empire, and each new expansion encompassed the previous construction. As can be seen in the image where one staircase grows parallel to the other, which is actually smaller, so that the temple functioned as a kind of architectural Russian doll.
Just in front of the temple there is a building that houses museums and cultural authorities. I find it impressive how somehow these two buildings complement each other showing very different aspects of Mexico's history. Both majestic and impressive.
But well, the coffee came and my attention went to other more mundane topics 😅.
