El día de hoy, me encontré con una iniciativa sobre ponquesitos que me pareció espectacular para contarles algunas de mis experiencias con este rico postre que, algunos pudieran considerar como una receta tradicional y personalizada en los países de habla hispana fundamentalmente, ya que en el mundo anglosajón la definición de cupcake es como algo menos tradicional y más un postre comercial similar a un pastel pequeño.
Lo primero que debemos conocer respecto a esta preparación, es que por su facilidad de preparación muchas abuelitas lo usaban para consentir a sus nietos en las tardes de merienda, así al menos los conocí yo, ya que el ponquesito de la marca 11 11, formaba parte infaltable de mi lonchera cada mañana, durante mi etapa de educación primaria.
¿Cuántos de ustedes recuerdan ese postre junto al cuártico de jugo de naranja?
Y allá rodó la cédula, de muchos JE JE JE que ahora se ríen mientras leen mis locuras, pero es cierto, el ponquesito y específicamente el de esa marca, en mi opinión era una de las meriendas tradicionales de Venezuela en cierta época por su divino sabor y precio económico, en esos momentos podías comprarlo casi en cualquier bodega.
En alguna oportunidad de mi vida, tuve la dicha de vivir en la Argentina y también en el Uruguay, los países hermanos gemelos separados por el Río de la Plata, pues les cuento que allá nadie sabe que es un ponquesito, pero sí que saben lo que es una magdalena en Uruguay o una mantecada en Argentina, dos formas muy distintas de nombrar a este rico postre.
Aunque hay que destacar que no es solo un cambio en el nombre, sino también en algunas de sus características y modo de preparación, lo cual genera una especie de rivalidad gastronómica en esos espacios del cono sur de Latinoamérica, por decidir cuál es más sabroso.
Ahora bien, regresemos a nuestro país, para contarle una de las complicaciones que tuve como padre en determinado momento durante la pandemia, un evento que seguramente puso a muchos al igual que a mí en verdaderos apuros, para intentar que nuestros hijos no se sintieran frustrados por no poder salir y compartir con sus amigos, fueron momentos duros para la humanidad, donde tuvimos que recurrir a toda nuestra creatividad para evitar que los pequeños de la casa se sintieran deprimidos o hasta incluso agobiados, por las limitaciones a la movilidad.
Como casi nadie sabe en Hive, soy un gran fanático del terror (si, seguramente es un secreto je je je) y de igual forma podrán imaginarse que una de las fechas del año más importantes para mí, es el 31 de octubre y la celebración de Halloween, por lo que deducirán que mi familia entera disfruta de disfrazarse y compartir actividades en esa fecha, razón por la cual, mi hijo estaba perfectamente adaptado a disfrutar al máximo de las festividades, pero lamentablemente eso no era posible durante el año 2020, así que estaba en verdaderos aprietos para intentar que el niño pasara por alto el no poder salir y se divirtiera de alguna forma.
Así que, recurrí sin dudarlo a la vieja confiable como dirían muchos y no, y no me refiero a la vecina que da tareas dirigidas que nos saca de apuros en temas académicos, me refiero a las recetas de cocina tradicionales, pero hasta ya todavía no llegan mis conocimientos culinarios, porque confieso que no sé nada de tortas a excepción de una marquesa fría.
Por lo que sí consideré como una alternativa, comprar los ponquesitos especiales para que mi hijo sintiera el calor familiar en los tiempos de Halloween y se olvidara de alguna forma, de la ansiedad por salir a pedir dulce o truco con sus amiguitos de la urbanización.
De esta forma, revisé todos los chats del conjunto hasta que me encontré con una amiga que rutinariamente hacía ponquesitos para la venta en los edificios y le propuse, que me realizara unos diferentes con características que vi en un concurso de cocina de la televisión, lo cual le pareció una idea tan maravillosa, que incluso me dijo que los ofrecería a otros clientes, para hacer un lote más grande y me saliera menos costoso fabricarlos y así se hizo.
El resultado fueron estos riquísimos ponquesitos de fantasmas y monstruos, que alegraron el triste Halloween de mi hijo en esas fachas tan difíciles, mientras disfrutamos de momentos especiales como familia de lo cual guardo un recuerdo vívido inolvidable, estoy seguro de que él también lo valoró de esa forma, porque desde ese momento se ha vuelto una especie de tradición familiar improvisada, hacer ponquesitos en Halloween.

So I did consider as an alternative, to buy the special ponquesitos for my son to feel the family warmth at Halloween time and somehow forget about the anxiety to go out trick-or-treating with his friends in the urbanization.
So, I went through all the chats of the group until I met a friend who routinely made ponquesitos for sale in the buildings and I proposed her to make me some different ones with characteristics that I saw in a cooking contest on TV, which seemed such a wonderful idea, that she even told me that she would offer them to other customers, to make a bigger batch, and it would be less expensive to make them, and so it was done.
The result was these delicious little ghost and monster pancakes, which brightened up my son's sad Halloween in those difficult days, while we enjoyed special moments as a family of which I keep an unforgettable vivid memory, I'm sure he also appreciated it that way, because since that moment it has become a kind of improvised family tradition, to make little pancakes on Halloween.
