Esta puerta fue construida en 1790 abriendo un hueco en la muralla de Carlos V. Cuando la ciudad de Gibraltar empezó a crecer se vieron en la necesidad de abrir una nueva vía y así unir la parte mas alta sin necesidad de bajar para cruzar la muralla.
This gate was built in 1790 by opening a gap in the Charles V wall. When the city of Gibraltar began to grow, it was necessary to open a new road to connect the higher part of the city without the need to go down to cross the wall.
Con el tiempo se puso un paso para peatones y se abrió la muralla para colocar unas ventanas a una vivienda.
El paso de peatones está decorado con un mural de la fortaleza de la ciudad, la bandera británica y del Estrecho.
Eventually a pedestrian walkway was put in and the wall was opened to put windows into a house.
The pedestrian crossing is decorated with a mural of the city fortress, the British flag and the Straits of Gibraltar.
Desde el lado de la ciudad vieja podemos ver las dos garitas perfectamente conservadas donde se hacían largas guardias. En ellas hay un cartel recordando una vieja inscripción escrita ahí por aquel tiempo.
From the side of the old town we can see the two perfectly preserved sentry boxes where long guards used to stand guard. On them there is a sign recalling an old inscription written there at the time.

"DIOS Y EL SOLDADO SON ADORADOS POR TODOS LOS HOMBRES EN TIEMPOS DE DIFICULTAD Y NO MÁS, PORQUE CUANDO LA GUERRA HA TERMINADO Y TODO SE HA CORREGIDO, DIOS ES DESCUIDADO Y EL VIEJO SOLDADO DESPRECIADO."
