Way back 2016, I had my very first hike.
Mt. Pico de Loro is one of the most popular hike destination near Metro Manila.

This 644 MASL mountain is a must-climb for beginners and a favorite hiking place of some of the seasoned mountaineers. It is located at Ternate Cavite, Philippines.

Why is it named Mt. Pico de Loro? Actually, its true name was Mt. Palay-Palay (it is included in the Palay-Palay Mountain Range) and the real Pico de Loro is the monolith (aka the Parrot’s beak).

The Monolith

I was with my collegemates back then. My friend Julie was the one who arranged our itinerary.

My very first hike was tiring, but we had wonderful time seing the beautiful scenery (from the forest full of bamboos and trees and different insects to the heart-pumping climb to the Palay-Palay summit), it was all worth it.

Plus, the delicious halo-halo waiting for you in the base camp before proceeding to the summit, mouth-watering.

We were not able to go to the monolith because some tour guides told us that there are falling rocks already there. And the only way to go up there is to hold into the rope (without any flat surface you can step your foot in). We all got scared and decided to start our way down.

As of today, Mt. Pico de Loro is still closed to the public until firther announcements. They said that the government is still rehabilitating the mountain.

Thank you for reading!
