The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 23, Post #1

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 23:

Sarah had died at 127 years old and we are reading about Abraham speaking to the the sons of Chet (some call them the Hittites - not in the text) and telling them to give him a property in their land that he may bury the one who has died. They answered him, "adoni besi elohim" (My lord prince of God) "bury the one of yours who has died in the choicest of burial sites among us and we will not keep you from burying the dead."

Pictured is the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron where Sarah was buried that day. She was the first one to be buried there. Abraham would later be buried there, and also Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob (Isreal), and Leah. I am not sure where people come up with the argument that God does not exist when this book is backed up by real people and places as I have shown here on @hebrew.

The story continues next week as Abraham asks to pay for the burial site...
