Thousands of women with incurable breast cancer could have months of extra life in drugs breakthrough

early 10,000 women with incurable breast cancer can look forward to months of good-quality extra life thanks to new drug breakthroughs capable of halting the disease, scientists have announced.

The results of two trials of patients with hard-to-treat matastasised cancers suggested new combinations of daily pills were more effective than chemotherapy at keeping tumours at bay.

Approximately 6,000 UK women with hormone receptor-positive HER2-negative advanced breast cancer could benefit from a new regime that stopped the disease progressing for an extra seven months.
