Tuesday's Thoughts: On Blame/Judgment and On Sarcasm

Some of the universal truths I have learned in these islands from mentors and teachers follow.

On Blame/Judgment:

Remember that when you point your finger at someone/something, there are four fingers pointing back at you.

On Sarcasm:

Among the weapons we use to castigate people we disapprove of--is sarcasm. True, it relieves pent-up feelings, and if our remarks are really pointed, gives us a certain satisfaction.

Repugnant as it is in itself, sarcasm becomes even more distasteful when we find it comes from the Greek verb "sarcazo," which meant to tear flesh. It is that form of irony in which the speaker is motivated by scorn.
