The University of Guanajuato (English translation of the name) can be seen from just about anywhere in the city as it towers above the other buildings. The University was founded in 1732 under the name Hospice of the Holy Trinity. After undergoing several name changes, it became Universidad de Guanajuato in 1945.
Today, it has more than 33,000 students. About half of the students are taking high-school level programs while the other half are pursuing bachelor's, masters, or doctorate degrees.
This photo was taken from the street. The streets are narrow and this building is massive, so I couldn't fit the whole thing in one picture.
Here's another view from the street, just to the right of the massive stairs.
The architect made sure none of the students would need a gym membership. Once you finally reach the top of the stairs, the people below begin to look like the size of insects.
Before knowing more about Guanajuato University, I was shocked by how young this city's residents were! Given the fact that this University is home to well over 30,000 people and the fact that Guanajuato just isn't that big, it's no surprise that a lot of the people here are quite young!
