Gratitudeday17/62: Grateful for Electricity

A brief history of the domestication of electricity.

Before electricity as we know it, people depended on oil lamps for when the dark hours came. There was no lightbulb, no television, no radio, no internet, ultimately no mass produced electronic gadgets as we know them today. The only knowledge of electricity that was predominant was the knowledge of static electricity, shocks from electric fish and the then unknown form of electricity as lightning. Then in the 18th century precisely In 1752, Benjamin Franklin a scientist conducted his famous kite experiment. In order to show that lightning was electricity, he flew a kite during a thunderstorm. He tied a metal key to the kite string to conduct the electricity. His experiment was successful. The electricity from the thunderstorm flowed through the kite and he even got a shock. After this many other scientists like Michael Faraday, Nikola Tesla and others built on his work and studied electricity even the famous inventor, Thomas Edison who later created the lightbulb. Soon after, electricity was commercialized. It was in homes and this paved the way for more electrical appliances like the washing machine and many more. But even before Franklin in the 17th century, English scientists Gilbert and Browne (not together) did some preliminary work on electricity and are credited with being the first scientists to use the term "electricity."

Today electricity is no longer a strange or new phenomenon in fact we take it for granted. We switch on the lightbulb or switch it off without giving it much thought not considering what work has gone into it. Today the world's economy is dependent on electricity without electricity the world powers (e.g America, China, Russia and the others) as we know them won't be there. Electricity is the foundation on which the modern world is built. Without electricity we will be sent immediately into the dark ages I can start mentioning what we won't have without electricity but we all know them and the list is just too long and those things are also important. In fact without electricity there is no steemit.

Gratitudeday.

So, I'm grateful for electricity, I'm grateful to the founding fathers of electricity for their contributions, dedication and genuine believe in the science to those that sold their properties, dedicated all their time and resources into the development of the science. They are all important and I don't want to start calling names because I won't be able to finish. I am really grateful for electricity. It has changed my life fundamentally from the way I wash my clothes, my entertainment, video games, fan/air conditioner, my phone, how I get water etc. It has really made life a lot easier.
