Gibraltar, desde que fue invadida por las fuerzas inglesas en el siglo XVIII, ha sido un bastión defensivo inexpugnable. Pero, además ha sido un bastión patriótico donde sus habitantes nunca han querido ser otra cosa que ciudadanos británicos.
The death of the husband of Queen Elizabeth II of England, the Duke of Edinburgh has been covered in all the newspapers of the British colony. There have been 41 cannon shots in his honor.
Gibraltar, since it was invaded by English forces in the 18th century, has been an impregnable defensive bastion. But, it has also been a patriotic bastion where its inhabitants have never wanted to be anything other than British citizens.
La familia real británica hicieron una visita al peñón un mes de mayo de 1954 para agradecer el cariño de los gibraltareños a la corona. La reina Isabel II junto a su marido el Duque de Edimburgo y sus hijos Carlos y Ana disfrutaron de una visita de dos días por todos los lugares de la Roca donde aún quedan recuerdos.
The British royal family paid a visit to the rock in May 1954 to thank the people of Gibraltar for their affection for the crown. Queen Elizabeth II together with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh and their children Carlos and Ana enjoyed a two-day visit to all the places on the Rock where there are still memories.
En ese viaje pudieron visitar el jardín botánico "The Alameda Garden", los túneles del asedio de finales del XVIII, la muralla de Carlos V española, las vistas desde lo más alto del peñón y las cuevas de San Miguel entre otras cosas.
On that trip they were able to visit the botanical garden "The Alameda Garden", the tunnels from the siege at the end of the 18th century, the Spanish wall of Carlos V, the views from the top of the rock and the San Miguel caves, among other things.

Seguro que disfrutaron de las maravillosas vistas desde lo más alto de la colonia y de los macacos que habitan la cumbre.
They surely enjoyed the wonderful views from the top of the colony and the macaques that inhabit the summit.
Se fue para el descanso eterno en un Land Rover que era su pasión. Y por aquí pude fotografiar uno de los clásicos que seguro le hubiera gustado verlo.
He went for eternal rest in a Land Rover that was his passion. And here I was able to photograph one of the classics that I would have liked to see.
